49ers dealt Brock Purdy blow as injury nightmare continues – while Christian McCaffrey jets to Germany to see specialist

A string of injuries have turned setbacks into nightmares for the San Francisco 49ers as concerns for multiple starters have left them hoping for their fortunes to turn.

That’s not been the case for Niners quarterback Brock Purdy, who is reportedly dealing with a sore back.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news on Monday after San Francisco’s 27-24 loss to the division rival Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon.

The injury did not force Purdy to sit the game out as he completed 22-of-30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns – while rushing ten times for 41 yards – in the narrow defeat.

He did that without his top running back, his top tight end, and one of his elite wide receivers – who all missed the game on Sunday.

This comes as RB Christian McCaffrey has flown to Germany for help with Achilles tendonitis

Running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out long term as he continues to deal with Achilles tendonitis.

According to Shanahan, McCaffrey is seeing a specialist in Germany to help him deal wit the injury – as images circulated around social media of the running back allegedly waiting for a flight to Munich.

But McCaffrey wasn’t the only one who missed time against the Rams.

Tight end George Kittle was ruled out for yesterday’s game due to reported tightness in his hamstring, but it’s unclear how long he might be off the field.

If that wasn’t bad enough, wide receiver Deebo Samuel also missed time with a calf injury after missing practice all week – with the expectation that he’ll be sidelined for ‘a couple of weeks’.

In place of Kittle and Samuel, wideout Jauan Jennings had a career-best day for the Niners – hauling in eleven catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns on the day.

Things aren’t much better on the defensive side of the ball for the Niners either – with top pass rusher Javon Hargrave might miss the rest of the season with a torn tricep muscle, according to Adam Schefter.

Hargrave had three total tackles – including a sack – in the game against the Rams.

San Francisco will hope to turn its fortunes around with a home game on Sunday against the struggling New England Patriots.
