An $82,000 Tesla Cybertruck left on the side of the road in Washington became an unlikely tourist attraction.
The electric EV, known to its fans as ‘CyberStuck,’ was left on a busy street in Seattle in September, likely due to a damaged rear end and what appeared to be suspension failure.
While the owner deemed it a hunk of junk, others traveled far and wide to leave the dead vehicle flowers and even a fake stone cross marked with ‘RIP.’
The fame led to it inspiring a sub Reddit: r/CyberStuck and earning a pin on Google Maps.
An admire of the Cybertruck reportedly ran into the owner one day, finding a kid hit the vehicle and they were still working out insurance to either fix it or have it towed.
‘I went by there this evening on my way to dinner. The owner was outside and was not happy we were there,’ the Reddit user wrote.
‘He said a kid hit his CT a few weeks ago and was still trying to figure out the insurance to get it fixed. He said people having been harassing him and his wife the past few days and he didn’t understand why.’
‘We told him his truck was all over Reddit and he got even madder. We left pretty quickly.’
Soon after, city officials placed an orange sticker on the windshield notifying the owner that the vehicle would be towed unless it was moved.
But the owner did not respond to the notice. Sometime during the night before September 10, the Cybertruck was towed away to an undisclosed location.
A video posted in the r/CyberStuck sub Reddit showed the truck hitched to the back of a Lang Towing tow truck and being pulled down a highway with its hazards flashing.
Another Reddit user posted a photo of the empty spot where the Cybertruck once sat with the caption ‘It’s Gone!’
‘Although I’m not in Seattle I miss it already,’ one person commented.
‘Stolen from us like a thief in the night,’ another wrote.
Since the truck was towed, Google has removed the Google Maps pin.
It’s still unclear what caused the damage that led this CyberTruck to break down on the side of the road.
But some owners of the futuristic EV have been grappling with unexpected issues that point to design flaws, including suspension failures, according to Driven Car Guide.
It appears that a suspension malfunction is what left this particular CyberTruck stranded on the side of the road in Seattle, with its rear wheels pointing awkwardly inward.
This may have been caused by a collision, but that is not confirmed. And according to Driven Car Guide, the fact that the truck’s body panels appear undamaged suggests otherwise.
Tesla’s Cybertruck has been plagued with issues since launching in November 2023, with one malfunction in June that cause the recall of more than 11,000 vehicles.
The recall followed reports that the pedal cover of the accelerator to slide off and become snagged on the carpet.
