A pop-up graphic from an ABC News affiliate has sparked outrage and prompted conspiracy theories as the outlet featured “test” election results for Pennsylvania, which happened to show a victory for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Pennsylvania results featured Harris winning with 3,293,712 votes, compared to former President Donald Trump’s 2,997,793 votes.
WNEP-TV, an ABC affiliate, stated that the graphic was an “error” and had been “randomly generated” ahead of Election Day.
Soon after, users took to social media platforms and expressed outrage while accusing the Democrat Party of getting their media constituents prepared to help Kamala Harris and her campaign steal the 2024 election.
Later, WNEP responded to the backlash, confirming that the screenshots were real and adding that the graphic was “accidentally” broadcasted as part of a test, reiterating that it was not the real vote totals.
“Test results for the upcoming November 5 general election mistakenly appeared on WNEP-TV early Sunday evening during a broadcast of the Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix,” the outlet stated. “The numbers seen on the screen were randomly generated test results sent out to help news organizations make sure their equipment is working properly in advance of election night.”
ABC was accused of foul play recently for presenting a bias in favor of Democrats during the September 10th presidential debate, which saw multiple fact-checks against Trump and exactly none for Harris, even though other news fact-checkers noted a long list of inaccuracies and falsehoods stated by Harris.
ABC also allegedly provided the questions to the Vice President ahead of the debate so that she could prepare, according to an unnamed whistleblower who reached out to the press.
Meanwhile, the alleged “error” occurring in Pennsylvania has now ramped up conspiracy theories due to it being a critical swing state. It is currently in a near deadlock tie as Trump holds a 0.6% lead, according to polling data.
In 2020, Biden beat Trump in Pennsylvania by only 1.17% of votes.
Pennsylvania law prohibits mail-in and absentee ballots from being processed prior to 7 a.m. on Election Day, and it could take multiple days for counties to count their mail-in votes.
