One of the most dishonest, slimiest members of Congress is speaking out after news broke on Monday that DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith is moving to drop all charges against Donald Trump. Adam Schiff, who California saw fit to elect to the U.S. Senate recently, blew up on social media, attacking the Biden administration and the court system for supposedly failing to uphold the rule of law.

BREAKING: Jack Smith Makes It Official on Federal Criminal Cases Against Trump
As RedState reported, Smith cited two OLC opinions on a sitting president not being prosecutable in his decision. He also left the door open for future charges after Trump leaves office by not dismissing the current ones with prejudice, though I’m highly skeptical this isn’t the end of the road for all intents and purposes. Regardless, Schiff was none too happy.
Like a child who touched a hot stove and blamed his mom for leaving it on, Schiff isn’t telling the whole story here. For instance, did you know that the January 6th committee refused to share testimonies and information with the DOJ for a period of time because it was “protective of its work?” Now, ask yourself. What exactly was a powerless, partisan House committee seeking to protect in that scenario when it was the DOJ, not Congress, that had the legal ability to prosecute Trump?
The answer was their egos. Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, Bennie Thompson, Adam Kinzinger, and the rest of the current and former House representatives on the now-defunct committee wanted their moment in the sun. They wanted their “report” to be a huge production that influenced the 2022 election and earned lavish praise from the press. To be sure, that’s what they got, but what they weren’t counting on is how badly they had screwed the timeline up in the process.

Remember the January 6th committee hearings? Taxpayer money was spent to hire Hollywood producers in order to provide maximum emotional impact for the television production. Its members destroyed evidence and lied to the public about what they knew. All the while, the DOJ was giving deference, waiting for them to wrap up the theatrics.
It wasn’t until November of 2022 that Jack Smith was appointed. Less than a year later, multiple indictments were brought against Trump. As the legal system goes, things were moving at a break-neck pace, but it wasn’t quite fast enough. In 2024, various legal maneuvers and roadblocks saw the DOJ’s pursuit delayed until after the election. Once Trump won, the game was over.
Had Schiff and his merry band of attention hogs not sought the spotlight and instead let the DOJ lead from the beginning, it’s fairly possible Smith’s case alleging that Trump illegally tried to overturn the election would gone to trial long before voters went to the polls. I’m not endorsing that, obviously, but as a tactical matter, it would have been much better for Democrats. They flew too close to the sun and shot themselves in the foot, and it was well-deserved.

Given that, Schiff should sit all the way down. The court system worked as it normally does. The idea that Trump should have been charged, convicted, and sentenced in a little over a year had nothing to do with the rule of law and everything to do with partisan demands that the system be used to destroy their political enemies. The good news is that Schiff has plenty of time on his hands to produce that “evidence” he says he has of Russian collusion.
