Aldi Australia has triggered a wave of nostalgia and excitement among shoppers with its latest Christmas food range.
The German retailer released a dupe of the much-loved Viennetta ice-cream cake on Thursday, as part of its biggest ‘Christmas freezer range’ ever.
Dubbed the ‘Entertainer’ the one litre ice-cream cake is just $6.99 and features ripples of vanilla flavoured ice cream layered with slivers of chocolate – just like the original treat in the 90s.
The retail giant has also expanded on the original dessert, which many remember being the ‘fanciest dessert of the time’, by offering a second flavour.
The second version features hazelnut and chocolate flavoured ice-cream laced with layers of chocolate. It’s then dusted with more chocolate and crushed hazelnuts.
The Aldi Christmas range focuses on an easy – yet luxe – Christmas Day experience.
It has doubled in size this year – following feedback from shoppers last year who admitted they preferred serving up the pre-prepared frozen meals to their families for Christmas so they could enjoy their day.
In fact, the retailer found up to 50 per cent of Australians were after quick and easy options for the holiday – with 45 per cent of those saying they would prefer to spend time with their families instead of being stuck in the kitchen.
ALDI’s Shopping Expert Kylie Warnke said research shows Aussies spend an average of four hours in the kitchen on the holiday.
‘We’re hoping to make the day feel a little lighter on prep with our biggest ever frozen range so there’s something for everyone,’ she told FEMAIL.
‘Adding in these frozen goodies to your Christmas menu will take the stress out and put you back into the fun with your family and friends!’
Aldi has also delighted shoppers with the return of its famous lobster tails ahead of the Christmas season.
The $34.99 treat was a sell-out success in 2023, with shoppers racing to get their hands on the premium buy that comes with a garlic butter glaze and lasts as long as 12 months in the freezer.
Lobster tails cost upwards of $60 each at seafood stores during the Christmas season.
Aldi’s entire Christmas seafood collection is back is stores from Wednesday 23 October.
