Aldi Australia shoppers are stocking up on new $4.99 food item: ‘It is elite’

Aldi shoppers are obsessing over a $4.99 item from the supermarket chain’s frozen food section.

The limited edition item takes two best sellers, hash browns and onion rings, and blends them into one snack.

The ring-shaped ‘hash browns with onion’ have been described as ‘elite’ by shoppers.

‘I have had these they are pretty good,’ one woman said.

‘I loved these – put soft boiled eggs on top,’ one woman suggested.

‘Cries in gluten free,’ said another on the video, sad to miss out on the treat.

Some were confused by the concept.

‘So are they more hash brown or onion ring,’ one person asked.

Others were quick to comment about a similar item in the freezer aisle.

‘The potato jewels have onion in them too, they are so nice,’ another person said.

But others who raced out to buy the rings said they were disappointed.

‘I went out and got these and they didn’t have any onion in them, they were just hash browns with holes in them,’ one woman complained.

In the video the shopper flipped the package over to show the dietary information, which made some viewers laugh.

‘Macros are the last thing I need when I am looking at hash brown onion rings,’ one man said.

Shoppers were previously impressed with another limited food item from the German-owned retailer.

The giant pretzels, which tend to be stocked ahead of Oktoberfest each year, were a huge hit.

The $6.50 bakery item was described as ‘tasting like the real thing’.
