Andrew Bolt has ridiculed a Sydney University academic who allegedly sent him threatening and abusive messages, labelling him a ‘cookie cutter leftist’.
The Sky News host questioned how Joel Griggs could work for Sydney University as a casual staff member responsible for teaching young students when he allegedly posted a series of inflammatory messages from his personal X account.
In August, Mr Griggs responded to a post shared by the Sky News Australia account which featured Bolt condemning revelations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients would receive a different menu while staying in a public hospital.
‘Well (sic) get you one day, you seditious, traitorous scum,’ Mr Griggs wrote.
‘Not just Bolt, Panahi, Dean, and (Peta) Cretin, but the faceless shts (sic) like the one who wrote and posted this tweet. “I was just doing my job” won’t cut it when the hoi polloi finally start lopping off heads.’
This post, along with several others allegedly targeting the Australian Jewish Association, have been referred to NSW Police, Sky News Australia reported.
On Tuesday night Bolt said he had ‘lost count of the death threats’ he had received from those on the left.
‘On the one hand; Islamists. On the other; the hard left, climate extremists and race activists, Antifa,’ he said.
‘Even an aid worker who, would you believe it, published my home address, wishing me harm, three kids at home.
‘These are people who claim to be moral, so moral in fact, they feel licensed to act like barbarians. Well add to the number now an actual academic at Sydney university, this Joel Griggs.’
Bolt said Mr Griggs ‘considered himself something of a Che Guevara of our suburbs with his violent and abusive language breathing fire online as he supports every tick box leftist cause’.
He added: ‘These people like to think they are so brave and original. Free thinker, individuals. And yet, look at them: they turn out to be bog standard, utterly predictable, cookie cutter leftist – all chanting exactly the same slogans.’
Bolt questioned how Mr Griggs could be employed by Sydney University.
‘How does a person this radical, this intolerant, this foul-mouthed… this abusive and this threatening get picked as just the person to help Sydney university educate our young, on our dime?’ he asked.
Daily Mail Australia contacted Mr Griggs for comment.
In his X bio, he describes himself as ‘Academic. Firebrand. Wild card.’
‘It’s socialism or barbarism. F*** the colony,’ his bio adds.
In August, Bolt weighed in on revelations that Canberra Hospital is building an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lounge and creating a ‘menu for mob’.
Patients who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander were the only ones allowed to select food from the menu, which included dishes like kangaroo stew.
A Canberra Health Services spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia at the time the ‘menu for mob’ had been developed ‘to improve cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers during their stay, and help them feel supported’.
Bolt labelled it an ‘apartheid menu’ and accused the hospital of ‘separating people by race’.
