That didn’t take long. In a surprise move, on Thursday morning, former Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) abruptly withdrew his name from consideration as Attorney General in the incoming Trump administration.

Citing concerns that his nomination was proving to be a distraction from the Trump-Vance agenda and the ability of the new administration to “be in place and ready on Day 1,” Gaetz affirmed his commitment to seeing that Trump’s second term is a success.

The question then became who President-elect Trump would select as his replacement nominee. We now have an answer to that. Trump has announced former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his new nominee for the spot.
I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!
For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!

Bondi received her undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Florida and her law degree from Stetson Law School in 1990. She served as a prosecutor in Hillsborough County, Florida, then as the state’s attorney general from 2011 to 2019.
Most recently, Bondi worked with the America First Policy Institute.
Presumably, she’ll face fewer headwinds in the confirmation process, though undoubtedly, the left will find some reason to take issue with the nomination. Stay tuned!
