Broncos star Ezra Mam enters rehab as he ‘seeks immediate professional treatment’ after the NRL star allegedly crashed into an Uber and failed a roadside drug test

  • Ezra Mam is being investigated by the police and the NRL
  • Comes after he was involved in a traffic incident last week

Broncos star Ezra Mam is seeking ‘immediate professional treatment’ in rehab as the Brisbane star looks to overcome some ‘personal challenges’ after he was involved in a traffic accident last week.

The incident had reportedly taken place in the Brisbane suburb of Bardon, with Mam, who was said to be moving house at the time, when the Ford Ranger he was driving allegedly collided with an Uber, being driven by a mother whose daughter was also inside the vehicle.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident, but Mam, 21, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The NRL star also allegedly failed a roadside drug and alcohol test conducted by Queensland Police. It is understood that he returned a negative result for alcohol.

The Brisbane playmaker’s management confirmed he has entered a professional rehabilitation facility following last week’s incident.

Queensland Police and the NRL Integrity Unit are investigating the alleged incident involving Broncos star Ezra Mam

The NRL’s Integrity Unit and Queensland Police have been investigating the incident and are reportedly waiting on the results of a secondary drugs test. Police have also alleged that Mam was driving unlicensed at the time.

The 21-year-old was not charged by police following the incident, but his management have confirmed in a statement on Monday night that he has sought professional help following the incident.

‘Ezra is extremely remorseful,’ a statement released by Mam’s management read.

‘He is concerned, first and foremost, for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.

‘He acknowledges he’s facing some personal challenges and, following these recent events, has taken a proactive step by seeking immediate professional treatment.

‘We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not make any further comments at this time.’

It comes after Brisbane chief executive Dave Donaghy said the Broncos were ‘disappointed’ with the star.

‘In my conversation with Ezra, he’s apologised for putting the club in this position, and certainly his concerns have been for the others that were involved in the accident,’ Donaghy said.

Mam also faces having his $4million contract terminated depending on the outcome of the investigation

The 21-year-old has reportedly entered a rehabilitation centre following the incident

‘He’s a young man, he’s a 21-year-old – But unfortunately, in this industry, you need to grow up quickly – It’s a very privileged role.’

It is the second time Mam has been involved in an off-field incident this year with the young star and fullback Reece Walsh being investigated by the NRL following an altercation with fans in Bali while on holiday.
