Democrats and media don’t seem to be doing a lot of analysis as to why Kamala Harris and Tim Walz lost yet.
But one reporter did drop a damning thread when it comes to the choice of Tim Walz, and it probably is a voice you wouldn’t think, former CNN reporter Chris Cillizza. Cillizza called Walz a “dud,” as Townhall’s Rebecca Downs reported.

While Cillizza said he does not think Harris lost because of the vice presidential choice and that she would have won if she had picked Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Or that she even would have won PA if she picked Shapiro.
2/ Before I get into it, let me say two things.
One: Tim Walz did not lose Harris the race (or even close to it)
Two: Josh Shapiro would not have made Harris win — or even win Pennsylvania.

Cillizza said he thinks Walz was picked because he made the comment about JD Vance being weird that went viral.
4/ Remember that Harris had an incredibly compressed timeline to choose a VP. From the day Joe Biden dropped out to the day Harris picked Walz was 16(!) days.
That’s it.

They maybe thought he could be helpful in the Midwest too.
6/ To be clear: I think Harris genuinely liked Walz and felt a rapport with him.
And that she and her strategists convinced themselves that Walz’s “big dad energy” might help her appeal to critical voters in the upper Midwest.

But it was the “weird” that got him selected, Cillizza said. And then he never had a “second act” after “weird.”

8/ Yes, there was excitement about the ticket after the pick.
But in retrospect that looks to me a LOT like excitement that Biden wasn’t the nominee anymore.
Like, if Harris had picked Shapiro or Gretchen Whitmer would the energy have been less?
I don’t think so.

And the funny thing about that, if true, is that’s right on brand for Kamala Harris and the Democrats. It says a lot about her judgement. A truly shallow pick, not based on the quality or deep vetting that came to backfire on them when it turned out that he was actually the “weird one” with constant gesticulations, as well as all kinds of lies and problematic stories in his background. I think maybe Harris also picked him because he was also a leftist just like her. But then the public looks at that, all they see are weird leftists who can’t (or won’t) even answer questions. It’s not exactly a choice that was reaching to the middle.
Walz truly imploded at the vice presidential debate, where Senator JD Vance showed how competent he was, and how Walz had trouble answering even simple questions, just like Kamala Harris. That pretty much finished him off, and it also revealed the quality of the Vance pick.

10/ Add it up and you get this: Walz was a mediocre pick based, largely, on a viral moment.
And with hindsight being 20-20 there were clearly better VP picks available to Harris.

Walz didn’t seem to help them in Minnesota; he couldn’t even bring home in his home county, as Rebecca Downs observed.
Now all this was observable, but what makes this interesting is Cillizza admitting essentially how bankrupt the Democrats’ process was here. Of course we could ask: why then didn’t he talk about this before? But you don’t even have other MSM types even admitting this much now. It also shows us how bankrupt our media is.
