Colorado Democrats are celebrating a law that will go into effect on January 1 that will extend free Medicaid coverage to pregnant illegal aliens, as well as migrant children. The taxpayer-funded program (aren’t they all?) opens state Medicaid funding for prenatal and postpartum care, physical, dental, vision, and mental health care, with an initial price tag of up to $51 million in costs to Colorado taxpayers.

So, I have a bit of mixed emotions on this one.
On one hand, it appears that much of the focus of the “Cover All Coloradans” plan is comprehensive care for kids. On the other hand, the California-wannabe state has intentionally become a magnet for illegals.
According to CBS News (emphasis, mine), Democrat Gov. Jared Polis’s administration is “working with a list of immigrant activist groups to alert migrants that they are eligible for the program and can sign up while assuring migrants that their personal information and lack of legal immigration status will not be supplied to immigration officials.”
Translation:
Colorado taxpayers will be forced to pay for comprehensive health care for aliens who intentionally entered the US illegally. In addition, Colorado Democrat officials will refuse to provide information about their illegal immigration status to federal immigration officials. Yeah, nothing wrong there, all. But, hey: Play stupid games by voting for Democrats, win stupid prizes.

Organizations serving immigrants are working to enroll families now, and to battle fears some may have about divulging information to the government.

Denver Health program manager Bryan Rodriguez says an effort is under way to educate illegals about the new Medicaid coverage. “So we have started to hear from the community some concerns about what the implications may be in the future with the new administration that will come in in January. Based on current Colorado state laws they protect the privacy of the clients that are applying for these public benefits.

“Clients.” How quaint.
According to CBS, the “public charge” rule specifies that a US Citizenship and Immigration Services officer may deny a person admission to the country if they deem the person is likely to become dependent on certain government benefits in the future, which would make them a “public charge.”
Please. The operative word above is “may.” Raise your hand if you think Colorado Democrats are going to deny coverage to anyone in this country illegally.
As to be expected (and rightly so), the massive cost of the program concerns many state Republicans who unsuccessfully voted against this expansion of Medicaid when the bill was passed in 2022.
Moreover, Republican State Rep. Matt Soper told CBS that continuing to add illegals to the state’s Medicaid program is causing many Colorado citizens to have benefits reduced due to budget limitations.
We shouldn’t be giving programs and services to undocumented immigrants that we aren’t giving to citizens who are within Colorado.
This. Is. Insane. Then again, it’s a left-wing program, so “insane” is mutually inclusive.
Incidentally, a November 2023 report released by the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security reported that an estimated $451 billion in yearly costs are connected to the Biden administration’s intentional and continuing illegal alien border crisis, and a large part of that U.S. taxpayer cost is going to medical care for illegal aliens.

I’m out — for now.
