Courteney Cox reminisces over Friends on 30th anniversary and reveals if she still watches iconic sitcom

Courteney Cox celebrated the 30th anniversary of Friends reminiscing over her fan-favorite character, Monica, who she says is ‘alive and well’.

The 60-year-old actress — who recently made heads turn at the US Open — opened up to People on Sunday about the hit show’s milestone and admitted she still watches the show occasionally.

‘It’s just insane to me because it feels like time, it goes so fast and I don’t realize it,’ she said of the show’s anniversary.

‘We used to say, “Oh, I can’t wait for this month” or “god, it feels like forever.” I would never say that line anymore,’ she added.

When asked of her witty character, she quipped: ‘Monica is alive and well. Are you kidding?’

Friends premiered on September 22, 1994, and ran for 10 seasons on NBC, ending in 2004. 

Cox acted alongside Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and the late Matthew Perry. 

The actress told the outlet that although she hasn’t streamed Friends ‘in a little while, but whenever I do come across it, I can’t help but [watch].’

She continued: ‘That show is incredible. Every joke holds up, all the characters are just so amazing, and we [had] the best writers in the world. I’m lucky that it continues on through all the generations. And that’s very fortunate.’

When asked on her inside scoop regarding a reboot, she explained that she ‘can’t imagine’ it happening considering the lasting legacy the original series had.

‘It’s hard to try to redo anything,’ she expressed. “Anything with “re” in front of it with this group… I think it’s so special.’

The show was a massive hit and was a ratings winner on during its 10 year run and can still be seen around the world in syndication.

Friends boasted an impressive 236 episodes and produced a short lived spinoff for LeBlanc’s character, Joey. 

The six recently reconnected after the passing of Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing, in October 2023. He was 53.

Courteney previously romanced Beetlejuice actor Michael Keaton from 1989 to 1995.

She later married her Scream co-star David Arquette on June 12, 1999 but called it quits in 2013. They shared a daughter, Coco, born in 2004.

The actress has been dating singer and songwriter Johnny McDaid, 48, on and off since 2013.
