- Danny Green reignites rivalry with Anthony Mundine
- Pair had some of the greatest battles in Australian sport
Australian boxing legend Danny Green has reignited his long-time rivalry with Anthony Mundine, promising that his son Archie will take on ‘The Man’s’ sons in the coming years.
While Green shared the ring with many fighters during his career, his two showdowns with Mundine captured the attention of the entire nation, with the pair winning one apiece.
On Wednesday night at Stan Sport’s Uncaged boxing event, Green suggested the two families might continue the biggest rivalry in Australian boxing history.
‘My boy Archie is coming for your boys , mate, don’t worry about that, Choc,’ Green announced during his commentary duties, as the camera showed Mundine sitting watching the action in the stands with two of his sons.
‘The next generation. It’s going to happen.’
Mundine responded to the remark on Thursday morning, posting: ‘That’s why they call me the man I’m the king of ppv s**t my boy be ready @dannygreen.boxer’.
Green, a four-time world boxing champion, has been posting clips of his son Archie to social media in recent months, with the teenager looking very sharp as he masters the sweet science.
Mundine has three sons – Rahim, Malik, and Anthony – who are all excellent athletes in their own right.
In Wednesday’s main event, Paulo Aokuso defeated Clay Waterman on points to claim the WBC Australasian light heavyweight title.
Earlier in the night, former NRL bad boy Curtis Scott defeated former All Blacks hardman Liam Messam and called out former UFC star Darren Till.
Messam and Scott, 27, traded some brutal blows in the ring during their battle of the codes bout, with the latter landing some brutal shots on his Kiwi opponent, who had held a seven-fight undefeated record prior to stepping into the ring.
The New Zealander, who had played club rugby for the Chiefs and retired from the sport in 2020 after making 43 Test appearances, had been Scott’s toughest opponent so far.
Scott now has eyes for a more accomplished opponent, and fresh off his victory against Messam, he revealed that he was now targeting a bout with former MMA star Till.
‘There’s a bit of talk about me fighting Darren Till, so you get him over in Australia that would be a massive fight for the Australian public,’ he told Sporting News Australia after the bout.
Till appeared at an explosive press conference on Tuesday afternoon ahead of his hotly anticipated bout against Tommy Fury on January 18 in Manchester.
Sparks flew during the media event in which Till threatened to kick Fury in the face during the bout. Meanwhile, the former Love Island contestant’s dad, John, was the centre of attention, rising from his seat to throw a glass of water at Till – instead soaking his son, Tommy.
After he faces off against Fury, Scott was enticed by the prospect of brining the Liverpudlian to Australia for a potential bout on the Gold Coast next year.
‘There’s been a bit of talk in the media and stuff,’ Scott added.
‘He’s in the boxing world now. Obviously, he’s a big name and Australia is a nice place. So could be a nice holiday for him. And if we can get that happening that would be great.’
