DeSantis Rushes to Defend Trump, Blisters Media’s Refusal to Hold Newsom Responsible for Wildfires

While President-elect Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had more than a few contentious exchanges during the 2024 Republican primaries, they now appear to very much on the same page.

That reality couldn’t have been more apparent on Thursday evening when DeSantis blistered a reporter for insinuating that Trump’s criticism of embattled California Gov. Gavin Newsom over the state’s devastating wildfires was inappropriate.

“He is the [sic] blame for this,” Trump posted to Truth Media on Wednesday, referring to Newsom as “Governor Gavin Newscum.”

Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way.

He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!), but didn’t care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this. On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!

So DeSantis and all other Republican governors had just wrapped up a dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago when the heated exchange with the reporter took place — and a sight to behold it was.

Trump Levels Gavin Newsom Over Disastrous Palisades Wildfire: ‘He Is to Blame for This’

After the reporter appeared to ask another governor if it was appropriate for Trump to criticize Newsom as the deadly fires continue to rage, DeSantis was locked and loaded to fire back.

Is it appropriate for people in your industry to try to create division and to try to create narratives any time these things happen? Now, you’re not as interested in doing that because Newsom is a D. If Newsom was a Republican, you guys would go try … you would have him nailed to the wall for what they’re doing over there.

Is there any doubt? I mean, for example, imagine the lapdog media’s response if Donald Trump Jr. had committed one-hundredth of the crimes committed by Hunter Biden. ‘Nuff said.

Referencing the 2021 Surfside condominium collapse in Florida. DeSantis continued to blast the left-wing media: “I think your track record of politicizing these things is very, very bad.”

The no-nonsense governor also took aim at embattled Los Angeles Democrat Mayor Karen Bass and some in the media for refusing to criticize her pathetic response to the wildfires.

You should have been there preparing and doing that, and yet I don’t see a lot of heat being directed [toward her]. I’d like to see some balance on how this is done. You can criticize the president-elect, but you also have to hold these other people accountable, and I have not seen that.

Chances are, neither DeSantis nor the rest of us will ever see the so-called “mainstream media” criticize Democrat leaders and their policies — at least nowhere near as much as they torch Trump and Republican policies, ad nauseam.

As the wildfires, now in their fourth day, continue to burn in Los Angeles County, at least 10 people have been killed and roughly 10,000 buildings destroyed.
