TIME Magazine has named presidential election winners the Person of the Year since 2000, and this year is no exception. President-elect Donald Trump has once again been honored with this title, appearing on this month’s cover, just as he did following his 2016 victory. Trump is expected to celebrate this recognition by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, as first reported by Politico. This marks the first time the iconic New York real estate mogul will ring the opening bell, according to the AP.

Trump beat out a shortlist that included Vice President Kamala Harris, his newfound billionaire political ally Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, better known as Kate Middleton. Notably, Musk had previously earned this title in 2021. Last year, the title was given to popstar Tayor Swift, while Joe Biden and Kamala Harris jointly shared the award in 2020.

While 2024 was one for the history books, Trump’s legacy will be defined by what lies ahead as he embarks on a second term with his “America First” agenda, bolstered by a government trifecta with majorities in both the House and Senate. Trump’s comeback, becoming only the second person to regain the White House after an election loss, is a testament to his unique brand of politics, where he not only defies conventional norms but also redefines them. Regardless of where one stands on the political spectrum, one thing is clear: Donald Trump dominates the media landscape and consistently defies expectations. His influence on American politics, culture, and the global stage will continue to be a subject of intense scrutiny, debate, and praise as he navigates his second term in office.
