Donald Trump may want to brush up on his Texas Tech football knowledge following a gaffe he made at the White House.
On Wednesday, the president surrounded himself with female athletes and activists as he put pen to paper on an executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
However, while addressing the audience, the 78-year-old made a fumble when he mistakenly claimed that Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville had coached Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Tuberville authored a Senate bill to codify the order titled ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ into law and was in attendance at the signing ceremony.
Trump seized the opportunity to shine the spotlight on Tuberville as he praised the contributors to the bill, highlighting the senator’s history as a college football coach.
‘Tommy Tuberville, a great coach. You know, his quarterback was named Mahomes,’ Trump said.

‘He was a great college coach, and I said, “How good was he?” He said, “You don’t want to know how good. He made me into a great coach.” He’s a pretty good quarterback, right? Yeah, he was very good. And he’s a good guy too.’
There was just one issue with Trump’s anecdote: Tuberville and Mahomes never crossed paths at Texas Tech.
While Tuberville, 70, did in fact coach the Red Raiders, his tenure ended in 2012 after two years at the school.
Mahomes’s first season at the program didn’t come until 2014, during which he played under Tuberville’s replacement, Kliff Kingsbury.
The signal caller played in Lubbock, Texas for three years before declaring for the NFL Draft in 2017. He was selected by the Chiefs with the No. 10 overall pick.
Meanwhile, Tuberville had gone on to accept the head coaching position at the University of Cincinnati in 2012.
Trump is expected to attend Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday where Mahomes and the Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles for a shot at history.
Andy Reid’s have the chance to seal an unprecedented Super Bowl ‘three-peat’ in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII.
Trump, who will reportedly become the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, will be a guest of honor of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson.
