Como defender Raphael Varane is reportedly considering retirement following his latest injury.

The World Cup winner joined the newly-promoted Italian side as a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired this summer.

The 31-year-old made 95 appearances for United before announcing his decision to leave in May this year.

Varane made his Como debut in their Coppa Italia clash with Sampdoria last month and was forced off after just 20 minutes due to an injury.

It was later revealed that the centre-back suffered a knee injury and was eventually left out of Cesc Fabregas‘s Serie A squad as he’s expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

According to La Parisien, Varane is now considering a premature retirement at the age of 31.

It is said that the World Cup winner could announce his decision soon, having played at the top level for 14 years.

Varane came through the youth ranks at Ligue 1 Lens and after one season in the first team joined Real Madrid in 2011 aged 18.

He went on to make 360 appearances for the Spanish giants winning three La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and a Copa del Rey among other trophies over a decade.

The Frenchman joined Manchester United in 2021 and displayed his quality despite being hampered by injuries during his three years at Old Trafford.

Varane also made 93 appearances for France and stared in their 2018 World Cup triumph before retiring from international football in 2022.

His last game in a United shirt saw him lift the FA Cup as he started the 2-1 victory over Man City at Wembley.
