Field hockey match erupts in gunfire as shooters send St. Louis University and La Salle players scrambling for cover

A field hockey match in Philadelphia erupted in gunfire, sending players, coaches and officials scrambling for cover.

Footage of the hectic scene shows players from both St. Louis University and La Salle abandoning their equipment and rushing indoors. One official is seen slipping or ducking behind the goal before getting up and running into an open garage.

An update was promptly posted on St. Louis University Field Hockey’s X account explaining that nobody was harmed.

‘Today’s match at La Salle has been called due to a shooting in the vicinity of the field,’ the post read. ‘Everyone is safe.’

A St. Louis University spokesman declined to offer any additional information when contacted by DailyMail.com.

The shooting took place at Temple's Howarth Field, where terrified players rushed for cover

The shooting took place at Howarth Field, which is actually part of nearby Temple University located in South Philadelphia a few blocks from South Broad Street.

The game was ruled over following the shooting because, per NCAA rules, the minimum of 48 minutes had been played.

Roos Pasveer gave La Salle a 1-0 lead in the third quarter, which proved to be the deciding goal.

St. Louis University’s website innocuously described the shooting as a ‘disturbance.’

‘The match was halted in the fourth quarter due to a disturbance in the vicinity of the field,’ read the post on the school’s athletics website. ‘SLU student-athletes and staff are safe.’
