Kayla Itsines has called out the owners of a new Gold Coast gym after her less-than-stellar maiden visit.
Taking to her Instagram story on Tuesday, the fitness mogul, 33, recounted her trip to the new gym, which she did not name in the post.
Kayla revealed that she was left flat by the experience which she said was typified by a lack of energy from staff and an absence of ‘vibe’ in the gym itself.
‘If you are a gym owner, this is for you. More specifically public gym owners,’ Kayla began her expansive post.
‘Today I decided to try a new gym closer to my house. It’s pretty much brand new so I thought “amazing”.’
Kayla’s amazement was quickly shattered however when she stepped up to the gym’s front counter.
‘Walked in and waited at an empty front desk – eventually someone came out. The staff member working was the most unbothered human in the world with no energy at all.’
Apparently not fussed with her arrival, Kayla added the staff member proceeded to offer a bare-minimum of service to the entrepreneur.
‘I asked for a casual visit and she just passed me a piece of paper with a QR code and said: “yep, just sign in”,’ Kayla wrote.
‘Didn’t even tell me where the bathrooms were, just walked off and left me by myself to walk in and work it out.’
Kayla’s workout experience only went downhill from there upon entering the gym itself which she said offered a distinct lack of ‘vibe.’
‘Then the gym,’ she continued.
‘Beautiful, brand new, clean but no vibe. The music was so low I could hear the people next to me breathing.’
She then offered some sage words of advice for public gym owners.
‘If I can give any advice to gym owners, you have to make your customers feel welcome,’ she wrote.
‘The gym is intimidating enough as it is…so whoever you have on the front desk has to be an absolute legend. they also need to make your customers feel welcome.
‘The gym needs music… LOUD music. Music creates a vibe and gets rid of the noise in your customers brain. Kind fun staff+ Loud Music = great gym.’
It appears that Kayla will not be returning to the gym after her lacklustre experience.
She took to Instagram, again on Wednesday to provide fans with an update on her search for the perfect workout space.
‘After my story yesterday, I’ve remembered that what’s ‘convenient’ isn’t always what’s best,’ she wrote.
‘Drove the extra 20 minutes today and went to my normal gym. Shout out to World Gym in Burleigh Heads.
‘You might be the most intimidating-looking gym I’ve ever been to, but you sure as hell make sure that no one feels left out.
‘Music on point – staff were wonderful.’
Kayla co-founded her very successful fitness app with former fiancé Tobi Pearce, now married to fellow fitness queen Rachel Dillon, who remains a passive investor and sits just below Kayla on the Young Rich list at 35.
The Sweat app, formerly known as Bikini Body Guide, charges members a hefty subscription fee in exchange for fitness and meal plans as well as shopping lists and exercise advice from Kayla herself.
Kayla and Tobi sold the company back in 2021 in a $400million deal to US software giant iFIT, but later bought it back for a reported fraction of the price.
According to the Influencer Marketing Hub, Kayla is also considered one of Australia’s top influencers, and can charge between $37,700 and $62,900 per sponsored post on her 15.8million follower strong Instagram account.
