Footy legend Mark Geyer is forced to race out of the studio during his live radio show as he gets urgent family news

  •  Footy legend’s son Logan and partner welcomed baby boy
  •  Geyer rushed out of the studio to be with his family

Penrith legend turned radio host Mark Geyer had to make a mad dash from the studio as he become a grandfather for the first time when his son Logan and partner Paige welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday.

The Panthers icon rushed away from the microphone in the middle of Triple M’s Mick & MG in the Morning show shortly before 7am to make sure he didn’t miss the once-in-a-lifetime event.

‘MG’ called the show later in the morning to shout at the top of his voice: ‘I’m a poppy!’

Geyer went on to reveal that the new baby boy arrived weighing a healthy seven pounds and 51cm tall – incredibly, the exact same height and weight as Logan was when he was born.

‘It’s a little boy,’ Geyer said.

‘As of yet, the name hasn’t been decided.

‘It’s a surreal feeling, after having five children, to have your first grandkid is quite emotional.’

The former NRL hard man also revealed that he wanted to be called ‘Papa’ but will instead be known as ‘Poppy Geyer’ or ‘Poppy Mark’.

‘He’s just a beautiful, beautiful thing. He’s changed my life forever!’

Co-host Mick Molloy asked if there was a chance the new arrival might someday play for the Panthers.

‘I don’t know, but maybe,’ Geyer laughed.

‘Obviously he’s born at a good size and comes from good stock.

‘Just a beautiful little thing.’

The Penrith legend (pictured celebrating the team's 1991 grand final win) didn't rule out that his grandson might one day play for the Panthers

The Panthers will take on the Sharks in a do-or-die preliminary final at Accor Stadium this Saturday as Penrith chase a historic four-peat.

Geyer’s other son Mavrik made his first-grade debut for the Panthers against the Roosters earlier in the season – and the footy legend admitted he choked up when he got the news.

‘At first I didn’t [cry], but when I started to tell other members of the family, it hit me. I got emotional hearing their reactions and how proud they were of him,’ Geyer revealed.

‘I got very emotional because I know how hard he’s worked for it. Not many people, other than his teammates and family have seen what he’s done to get to this spot.’

Mark debuted for the Panthers in 1986, playing 135 matches and starring in the club’s 1991 premiership triumph.
