In what could possibly be a sign that Fox News is looking to make a lasting peace with President-elect Donald Trump, the network has announced that fan-favorite Will Cain will take over the 4 p.m. ET time slot long held by Neil Cavuto.

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott made the announcement Monday:
“As the media landscape continues to evolve, we are always looking to innovate our programming lineup to meet the needs of our viewers, and we are confident the new lineup will best position FOX News Media for the future. Will Cain brings years of experience to the 4 p.m. hour as an accomplished broadcaster and a lawyer and we look forward to adding his insights to what will no doubt be another historic news cycle ahead this year,” Scott said in a statement.
In response to the move, Cain, who is currently a co-host of “FOX & Friends Weekend,” talked of his hopes for the new show:
“It has been an honor to wake up with America these past four years and I am thrilled to apply my background in news, law, entertainment and business to help our viewers better understand the headlines through thought-provoking content and analysis every weekday afternoon,” Cain said.
Cain also tweeted about his excitement about his new show, which will be called “The Will Cain Show.”
So I’ve got some news. And I couldn’t be more excited! https://t.co/0AYazU7haj

As RedState’s Mike Miller reported last month, Cavuto abruptly signed off of his program, “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” for the last time after nearly three decades with Fox News. Cavuto had nothing but gracious words for his bosses at the network.
This is it. The final segment, but today I also wanted to let you know this is my final show. I’m leaving Fox. I’ve been planning this day for some time. This just seemed like a good time. Now, some of you might be thinking, ‘Well, Neil, it’s about time!’ After all, I’ve been doing this for nearly three decades here. You know, there are people working with me now who weren’t even born when I started at Fox — that’s how old I am. But I’m not leaving journalism, I’m just leaving here. But I’m forever grateful to my bosses here.

Will Cain has been a vocal supporter of his former “FOX & Friends Weekend” co-host, Pete Hegseth—Donald Trump’s pick to head the Department of Defense—as Hegseth’s nomination faced strong headwinds from Democrats and some Republicans. It’s not too much of a leap to wonder if the shift from Cavuto to Cain is an effort by Fox News to placate Trump, who has been very critical of Fox News’ afternoon shows, once saying, “It’s not worthwhile doing Interviews on Fox, because it all just averages out into NOTHING. FoxNews has totally lost its way!”

“The Will Cain Show” will start on January 21, the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, and will feature “conversations with newsmakers from across politics, business, culture and sports.”
And lest you think Rachel Campos-Duffy will be lonely on the “FOX & Friends Weekend” curvy couch after the departures of Hegseth and Cain, Fox News also announced that contributor Charlie Hurt would be taking Cain’s place starting January 18.
