WHAT’S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill…
Okay — time to take a deep breath as confirmation hearings — and votes — are done for the week on the Hill. After an eventful Thursday, with hearings for Tulsi Gabbard (DNI), Kash Patel (FBI), Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (HHS), and Dan Driscoll (Army) — poor guy got rather short shrift with all of the drama surrounding the other three — a confirmation vote for Doug Burgum (Interior), and votes breaking the filibuster on Doug Collins (VA) and Chris Wright (Energy), no further confirmation votes/actions will occur until next week.
The House GOP wrapped up its annual retreat but without a ton of clarity on how exactly they’re going to get that reconciliation package done. There may be bumpy roads ahead. And once Elise Stefanik is confirmed for UN Ambassador, their majority margin is going to be a mere whisker.
White House What’s Up
It made my night last night to receive Daily Guidance from the White House Press Office for Friday. That makes drafting this section infinitely easier. So, today, Karoline Leavitt will host a press briefing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. President Donald Trump will sign another round of executive orders at 3:00 p.m. Then, at 5:00 p.m., he’ll depart the White House and head to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend.

There are rumors that Paramount is in talks to settle Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News and “60 Minutes” over their alleged doctoring of a segment with Vice President Kamala Harris just ahead of the election. Trump recently settled suits with ABC (defamation) and Meta (removal from Facebook).
COMING ATTRACTIONS
Expect floor votes on Pam Bondi as Attorney General, Doug Collins (VA), and Chris Wright (Energy) next week, as well as committee votes on several of the nominees who’ve now testified.
The Senate Finance Committee will hold a confirmation hearing on Jamieson Greer’s nomination for U.S. Trade Representative next Thursday.
And don’t forget: Sunday is Groundhog Day!
MORNING MUSING
“Tired of winning yet?” has become a running joke, and I’ll admit, trying to keep up with the fast and furious pace of the news — and the Trump administration — is a touch overwhelming, but I must say, no, I am not. It isn’t that I agree with 100 percent of what’s been said or done since Trump retook the Oval Office — there are a couple of things I might have handled differently. But I’m not the president. And the one I voted for? It’s been gratifying to see him not only energized but focused — and clearly having learned quite a bit from his first term and his four years in the wilderness. It would appear you can teach an old dog new tricks. And I’m thoroughly pleased with about 95 percent of what I’ve seen thus far. So, again, no — to borrow from dear Hillary (and her gawdawful accent), I don’t feel no ways tired of winning. More, please.
