Gavin Newsom seems to be spending a lot of time trying to deflect blame for the wildfire disaster in Los Angeles when he should be concentrating on his job and stopping the fires.

As we reported earlier, he posted a truly petty and twisted attack on Elon Musk. This, as Musk was lending help to the firefighters in the form of Cybertrucks to help with power and Starlinks for Wifi.

Newsom also did a “Meet the Press” interview with Jacob Soboroff on Sunday. Again, it seemed like he was engaging in a lot of political attacks on President-elect Donald Trump. But then he got nailed by Soboroff on the question of water in reservoirs, as Matt Vespa at Townhall reported. Newsom claimed the “reservoirs were completely full.” That’s when Soboroff brought him up short.
Gavin Newsom: All our water reservoirs are full!
Reporter: Actually one reservoir was empty
Gavin Newsom: Oh yeah we’re investigating that pic.twitter.com/6BIfls54iW

Soboroff noted that they do know from local reporting that one reservoir wasn’t full. That’s the Santa Ynez reservoir that we reported about, which was under repairs. Then Newsom quickly said that’s why they’re investigating what happened there. Wait, what, he’s denying a problem, saying they’re full,l and then in the next breath, saying he’s investigating why one was not? Yikes.

The bottom line is that fire hydrants went dry while battling the fires in the Palisades. Not having a 117 million-gallon storage reservoir in operation seems important at such a critical point. Department of Water and Power general manager Martin Adams said while it wouldn’t have “saved the day,” it would have helped to some extent, although it “wouldn’t have lasted forever.”
Even the LA fire chief said that the city had failed them, that they were understaffed and that impacted response times, that they had been impacted by budget cuts.

Newsom can try to talk about Trump, but Trump isn’t the guy in charge in California — Newsom is. Trump isn’t responsible for the failures here. But don’t worry, Newsom wants an “independent investigation” to get to the bottom of all the failure. Soboroff asks if he was “passing the blame on to other people.” This guy is such a slick used car salesman, his hands never stop moving.
Gavin Newsom is called out on Meet the Press for an ‘investigation’ that seems like ‘finger pointing’ meant to distract from his own ineptitude:

And he has a “Marshall Plan” for the future. As if anyone would trust any plan he has. But hey, at least there’s lots of hand-waving to show how serious he is.
Newsom: We’ve got a Marshall plan to rebuild Los Angeles 2.0
NBC: Tell us about that Marshall plan
Newsom: (puts up hands) We’re just starting to lay it out. We are still fighting these fires!

If he had any hope for 2028, it may just have gone up in smoke.
