GOP Now 1 Seat Closer to (and Only 1 Seat Away From) House Majority With the Latest Race Call

Another U.S. House race has been called in the Republicans’ favor, bringing the GOP one seat closer to (and only one seat away from) retaining the majority. Colorado’s Eighth Congressional District has now been formally called for Republican Gabe Evans, who bested incumbent Democrat Yadira Caraveo to flip the seat red.

With more than 95 percent of the vote counted, Evans leads Caraveo by 0.8 percent and only 2,596 votes, which is part of the reason for the slow call.

Caraveo has formally conceded, stating:

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Colorado’s 8th district. I came to Congress to get things done, and have spent the last two years working to find common ground and bipartisan solutions to the most pressing issues facing our community.”

Evans also put out a statement celebrating the win:

Decision Desk has now formally called the race for Evans, and now the eyes turn to AZ-06 and a handful of California races (plus Alaska, but that may be a week or more away, thanks to ranked-choice voting) to see if/when the GOP will drag it across the finish line.

We’ll, of course, continue to follow it closely and bring you the news once we know something definitive.
