He instantly became a fan favourite on the Network Ten franchise, The Bachelor.
The affable star first sprang to national attention on season 2 of The Bachelorette in 2017, and finished the season as runner-up.
The following year he appeared on season five of The Bachelor and quickly won the hearts of fans – and eventually a wife.
The TV star went on to co-host travel show Luxury Escapes: The Worlds Best Holidays with Sophie Faulkner.
He then dipped his toe back into the reality show waters as a contestant on the 2021 series of Dancing With The Stars where he was the sixth contestant eliminated.
He is currently appearing on the eleventh season of Channel Ten hit I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
Of course, it’s none other than Matty ‘J’ Johnson.
Matty’s wife Laura Byrne took to her husband’s Instagram on Thursday to share a teenage throwback photo of the future reality show hunk.
The pair tied the knot in 2022, five years after their Bachelor meeting, and the couple now share two children.
On Wednesday, Laura was quick to oblige a fan who demanded: ‘we need to see a photo of a young Matty J.’
Sporting a rather red complexion and a thick shock of wavy black hair, Matty looked almost unregognisable in the photo.
Laura issued a stern warning to women who might have designs on her man after seeing the image.
‘He is going to kill me. The glow up of all glow ups goes to this man right here. Ladies back off, he’s mine,’ she wrote.
The post was met with a deluge of comments from fans, with one admitting they were having trouble believing it was Matty depicted in the image.
‘I refuse to believe this is Matty J,’ the skeptical fan wrote.
Another fan took a not-so-subtle dig at the size of Matty’s ears in the photo.
‘I mean, he would have made a great model for all your Toni May earrings… plenty of display space,’ they said.
Another joked that after seeing the image it was obvious why Matty turned out to be such a nice guy.
‘Bless, this is why he has such a beautiful personality, he had no other choice,’ the fan commented.
The comments didn’t stop their either, with another follower suggesting that Matty’s transformation was straight out of a fairy tale.
‘That man embodies the nerd duckling that turned into a beautiful swan,’ they offered.
The hilarious throwback photo comes after Laura revealed the racy gift she bought for her husband before her entered the I’m A Celebrity jungle.
‘I was thinking what am I going to bring to entertain everyone, so then I bought a c*** ring online,’ Laura confessed on her Life Uncut podcast.
‘I wanted to send Matt off with a bang. He’s never tried one. I’ve never tried one.’
Laura, who added that the electric boudoir accoutrement came complete with a ‘frightening’ amount of settings, said before the couple could road test the item it was discovered by their daughter Lola.
‘It had been charging for two days I had kind of forgotten about it,’ she said.
‘Lola was the one who ruined the anticipation when she came downstairs wearing it as a bracelet on full vibrate.’
Lola, who is used to wearing her mother’s jewellery around the house, was quite taken with her new bracelet and even wanted to take it to daycare.
‘She was walking around the house and was like: “mummy, this one moves”,’ Laura said.
