Popular Australian series Bump will be back for a fifth and final series on Stan this December.
The streamer dropped a trailer for the beloved series this week, revealing a Boxing Day premiere in what Stan described as a ‘Christmas tradition for all Australian households’.
The comedy-drama series is created by Claudia Karvan (who also stars) and Kelsey Munro.
It centres around Oly (Nathalie Morris) and her boyfriend Santi (Carlos Sanson Jr) who have a surprise baby in season one when they are both still in school.
The couple have a wide network of family and friends to help them out, including Oly’s mother Angie (Karvan) and father Dom (Angus Sampson).
Outlaying the crux of the final season, Stan revealed that fans would rejoin the beloved Chalmers-Davis family at pivotal moments, including Oly’s second pregnancy and Angie’s ongoing cancer battle.
‘In Bump season five we find the Chalmers-Davis family facing the realities of Angie’s diagnosis; a hard blow that coincides with what should be the joy of Oly’s second pregnancy,’ they said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Oly is also juggling pregnancy with the stress of ‘fresh unemployment’, which ‘threatens to stretch out to something more troubling if she can’t get her mojo back.’
‘Are you regretting getting pregnant,’ Santi asks Oly in a scene from the trailer.
‘I don’t know how to answer that today,’ she replies.
Elsewhere in the series, Dom and Tim (Ryan Johnson) will finally realise their dream to open a record shop, but not without a few hurdles.
‘Vince [Ioane Saula] is trying to make his new relationship with Van [Sana’a Shaik] work, even as she challenges his boundaries; and he’s trying to forget Reema [Safia Arain], who is entangled with Rakim [Arlo Green]
All in all, the final sea on promises to be one dramatic and bittersweet swansong for the Chalmers-Davis family.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia ahead of the series four premiere in 2023, the Bump stars revealed the secret to the show’s success.
Morris, who plays the central character of Oly, told Daily Mail Australia she believes it’s a hit because it ‘resonates with so many people’.
‘It’s a very uplifting show and very Australian to be make the best of a bad situation. I also think a lot of people in Sydney recognise their home in the show,’ she said.
‘There are also heaps of characters that a lot of people can resonate with.’
Morris’ co-star Sanson Jr, who plays Oly’s partner Santi, agreed, adding: ‘I think because life has bumps, people resonate with that.’
Ricardo Scheihing Vasquez, who also stars in the series as Matias, said the show’s filming location of inner west Sydney helps.
‘You are used to seeing New York or LA but all of a sudden you’re in Sydney. A lot of people are really attached to the inner west,’ he explained.
‘The characters are also very real, raw and there is no hiding. Personal relationships breaking down and teenagers growing up, and things that happen in real life.’
Meanwhile, Paula Garcia, who plays Rosa Hernandez, said she thinks viewers see themselves in at least one character from the series.
‘Every person can identify with at least one or many characters,’ she said.
‘Many people see themselves. It’s also quite different, very woke, very feminist and very modern.’
The comedy-drama was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows on Stan upon its debut in 2021 and spawned a spin-off series – Year Of – in 2023.
The fifth and final series of Bump premieres Boxing Day, only on Stan. Every episode of seasons one, two, three and four are now streaming on Stan.
