Mazie Hirono has won the Hawaii Senate race.

Democrat Mazie Hirono, the incumbent, faced off against Republican Bob McDermott in the race for the Hawaiian Senate seat.

Hirono was first elected to her Senate seat in 2012.

“As an immigrant who grew up under difficult circumstances, I recognize that my path to the Senate was unlikely. At the same time, my experiences have shown me the incredible opportunities available in America and have fueled my desire to give back,” Hirono’s website states.

Prior to her victory, she served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district.

In the House, Hirono boasts that she supported families by preserving Hawaii’s prepaid health care law, she teamed up with colleagues to protect Native Hawaiian education programs, she became a recognized advocate for early childhood education, she promoted food and energy sustainability, and lastly, sponsored legislation to support Hawaii’s tourism industry, creating more jobs.

Hirono also joined more than 70 of her colleagues in the U.S. Senate and House of Representative surged Biden to limit the sale of firearms.

Bob McDermott, a Desert Storm veteran with 16 years experience in the Hawaii State Legislature, believes gun violence in the U.S. is the result of disturbed individuals with poor mental health who need support, rather than blaming firearms and demanding that they be banned or that the president limit firearm sales like Hirono.

He also maintains that the Second Amendment is a necessary right as an American.

The policies that he is running on revolve around fiscal responsibility, ending the war on fossil fuels, national security, and representing local Hawaiian taxpayers while in Washington, D.C.

McDermott argues that the fight on fossil fuels and wasteful spending are the main causes of inflation.

He also went on to say that Americans need to balance the budget and protect Medicare and Social Security. “Vanguard, State Street, and Blackrock own 80% of the S&P 500” and need to be split up, he continued. Additionally, McDermott feels that it is necessary to dismantle Big Tech and Big Pharma, increase manufacturing to bring jobs back to America, and stop the transfer of wealth and jobs to the Chinese Communist Party. Regardless of deductions, billionaires should pay a minimum tax of 30%, he continued.

McDermott also wants to stop the war in Ukraine, support the Jewish State of Israel while seeking a lasting peace, and end wokeism, “which has hurt our military recruiting.”

“To win, running a God-centered campaign, conducting myself as a Christian Gentleman while putting morality and decency back into our public discourse, Stopping the endless wars, protecting parental rights and students from gender ideology brainwashing, and righting our fiscal ship so that working families have a chance to thrive and prosper,” McDermott stated.

“Illegal immigration costs us 451 billion dollars per year. Stop Child Sex Trafficking – Life in Prison. 85,000 Children under Biden unaccounted for, resume DNA testing of “alleged” parents. Stop the flow of drugs; Fentanyl killed 100 thousand Americans last year; Colt Brennen and Tom Petty, among others, died from Fentanyl. Current disregard for the immigration law is an insult to many Filipinos and other Pacific Islanders who played by the rules to gain citizenship,” he concluded.

At the time of this reporting, Hirono won with 65.5% of the vote compared to McDermott’s 31.4%.

75% of the expected votes have been counted.
