President-elect Donald Trump has been busy announcing appointments to his future Cabinet and to his White House staff, and whether you love all his picks or don’t, it’s nevertheless been high-quality entertainment to watch the reaction to them on social media. The naming of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense has so far caused the most liberal tears, but the announcement that Trump is choosing Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz as his attorney general is sure to cause many leftist heads to explode.

So far, I don’t see that many progressive meltdowns—they’re probably too busy crying in the bathroom—but more are sure to come. In the meantime, there have been plenty of fun posts:

LA Times columnist Jonah Goldberg couldn’t hide his bitterness:
I cannot imagine why someone would vote to confirm Matt Gaetz for host at Red Lobster, never mind Attorney General of the United States.

And then there’s the just plain funny:
“… so I picked Gaetz because he said he’d focus on Pelosi’s stock trades…” pic.twitter.com/MKCn0TyW7N

The Hollywood set predictably weighed in with their usual joyless dark vision. Note to Hollywood actors and “stars”: Most of you beclowned yourselves fawning over the worst presidential candidate possibly in history. You have no say in the matter.
Bitter tears:
Trumps appointment are designed to spread horror and disbelief –
Yes , a pedophile as AG
A likely foreign operative as National intelligence director . And more slugs to come from the Fox green room . He’s trying to burn it all down .
They will get these done as recess…— John Cusack (@johncusack) November 13, 2024
Of course, no meltdown would be complete without the input of former Rep. Adam “Cryin’” Kinzinger (R-IL):

Gaetz and Gabbard?
The senate needs to stop these. Faith leaders? Maybe speak out pic.twitter.com/ZA9FaLigog

And wouldn’t you know it, Mr. Impeachment himself is back, unfortunately as a newly elected senator. He was up to his usual whining and fear-mongering:
First the Supreme Court granted a president immunity for weaponizing the Justice Department.
Now Donald Trump wants to appoint Matt Gaetz as AG?
Confirming him would mean affirming the worst potential abuses of DOJ.
He must be rejected by the Senate.

As someone once said—I think his name was Barack Obama—elections have consequences. Or, to use another quote, “To the victor go the spoils.” Trump is showing that he’s thinking outside of the box and shaking things up.
Adam Schiff and Hollywood celebrities can step aside because there’s a new sheriff in town.
