An American woman has found herself at the centre of an awkward neighbourly dispute after receiving a strongly worded letter accusing her of causing nightly disturbances – except she claims it’s not her.
The woman, from Colorado, shared the ordeal on Reddit after her neighbour slipped a handwritten note under her door.
Her neighbour pleaded with the accused couple to move their bed away from the wall, claiming their ‘activities’ are keeping her awake every night despite earplugs and white noise blasting at full volume.
The exhausted writer goes on to detail how their nightly romps have shaken her floor and bed frame, leaving her sleep-deprived and forced to retreat to her living room just to get some rest.
The note read: ‘PLEASE pull your bed 2-3 feet AWAY from the wall. I’m glad y’all have sex every night, however, I do not want to hear it or be a part of it. It shakes my entire floor including my bed frame.
‘I have even changed the orientation of my room so my bed doesn’t share a wall with you and it still vibrates my floor/bed and I can STILL hear your girl moaning.
‘Again, happy for y’all, but I have GOT to sleep. I can’t remember the last time I got more than six hours of sleep because your activities are keeping me up.
‘I dread going to bed now. I sleep with ear plugs AND a music speaker at full blast of white noise and I can STILL hear you guys. There’s been nights I have to sleep in my living room.’
The letter left the woman stunned, as she insists she and her husband haven’t been doing anything remotely disruptive.
‘I wish it was our bed causing earthquakes, but no, it’s just us sleeping,’ she explained in her post.
‘I’ve also heard banging in the middle of the night but only twice, so I can’t pinpoint what neighbour this is coming from. It’s probably an upstairs neighbour.’
Things took a turn when the neighbour confronted her in person, claiming she had checked with other tenants and was convinced the noise was coming from their apartment.
Despite the young woman repeatedly explaining they weren’t responsible, the neighbour didn’t seem to believe her.
Her neighbour claimed the loud noises only started when the poster and her husband moved in – which is why she thinks they’re the culprits.
To make matters worse, the situation escalated later that evening when the frustrated neighbour began banging on the wall and screaming ‘shut up’ even though the woman says she and her husband were doing nothing but relaxing.
‘My husband was playing video games, and I was in the living room,’ she explained. ‘I’m making him go talk to her now, so hopefully she hears the noise and sees him at the same time to prove it’s not us!’
The peculiar dispute has sparked online discussion, with many commenters sympathising with the accused woman.
Some suggested the noise could be coming from an entirely different apartment, while others laughed at the awkwardness of being accused of nightly escapades.
‘You got an anonymous note for a problem you aren’t responsible for. It goes in the trash,’ one said.
‘If she keeps being aggressive definitely let your landlord know,’ a woman advised. ‘She can’t just harass whoever she thinks is making noise.’
Another shared a similar experience: ‘Years ago my roommate and I came home from a night out and the neighbours in the building across the way were going at it with the window open, complete with shouting.
‘We waited until they were finished, then gave them a standing ovation, complete with whistling and cheering. The window slammed shut and we never heard them again.
‘Sometimes people think it will be hot if others hear them having loud sex but when confronted with the reality of someone actually listening, they freak out.’
