I’m a soda addict – I drink almost five gallons a day and don’t plan on stopping

If you were to see Steve in a grocery store, you could be forgiven for thinking the crates of soda piled high in his shopping cart meant he was planning for a party – but in fact, he’ll consume it all within a month.

The self-confessed soda addict stocks up on his favorite fizzy drinks whenever he spots a deal, sharing his jaw-dropping – and gut aching – addiction with his thousands of TikTok followers.

‘Every time there is an amazing soda sale I have to attack,’ Steve, who goes by @foodyfellowship online, declared in a recent video, showing the process of purchasing almost 150 cartons of soda.

The food blogger, based in Utah, confessed he made multiple trips and utilized various vehicles, showing his SUV stacked with different flavors of Fresca, Diet Dr Pepper and A&W Root Beer.

The content creator starts every day with a whopping four Diet Dr Peppers, which equals 48oz, that he sips on while he drives to the gym.

‘I need that caffeine,’ Steve chirps.

He then stops at a gas station and fills up his 100oz bottle with fountain soda on the way back from his workout.

Once home, Steve cracks open a couple more flavored Diet Dr Peppers and then puts three cans of Fresca in a thermos, which he then adds syrup to.

However, his massive carbonated consumption isn’t over after that, drinking yet another Diet Dr Pepper and two A&W zero sugar root beers.

Steve then runs some errands for his wife, picking up yet another fountain soda on the way before going to the movies, where he refills his 32oz cup a huge three times over the course of the film.

After polishing off a few more cans at home, Steve’s soda total is 4.79 gallons – or 613.12 ounces – of soft drink.

Steve has multiple refrigerators in which to store his soda in and around the house, explaining he also makes a lot of ‘dirty sodas’ – made up of regular soda with flavored syrups, juices, or fruit purees.

TikTok users were in shock over Steve’s massive soda consumption, flooding his comments.

‘This is who the europeans are talking about when they try to make fun of Americans and our love of soda,’ one user joked.

‘IM SORRY?!! Four cans FOR BREAKFAST?’ one stunned user wrote.

‘Bro be careful I drank soda almost daily for five years and I got gastritis and now eating a smoothie takes hours no one ever deserves to go through this plz be careful,’ another begged.

Soda is particularly popular in Utah, which has a high Mormon population, as the church forbids alcohol and caffeine.

The ‘dirty soda’ trend became popular in shops around 2010, according to Utah Tourism.

Swig, Fiiz, Quench It, and Sodalicious are just some of the chains that currently sell dirty soda.

Besides Utah, several soda shops are located in California, Idaho, and Arizona – three of the top four states in LDS Church population, according to its website.

Dirty sodas generally are non-alcoholic drinks, as booze is forbidden according to LDS Church guidelines.

According to UCLA Health, drink excess soda can lead to weight gain, disruptions to gut health, cardiovascular problems and an increased craving for sweets.

‘More recently, studies have linked the diet soda habit to an increased risk of stroke,’ a 2022 piece read.
