Follow Mail Sport’s live blog as Jake Paul and Mike Tyson finally go head-to-head at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for blockbuster Netflix bout.
FULL list of results
There were of course other fights taking place at the AT&T Stadium on Friday night so for those of you who missed it, here’s the full list of results.
- Bruce Carrington vs Dana Coolwell: Carrington wins by unanimous decision
- Lucas Bahdi vs Armando Casamonica: Bahdi wins by majority decision
- Shadasia Green vs Melinda Watpool: Green wins by split decision to become world champion
- Neeraj Goyat vs Whindersson Nunes: Goyat wins by unanimous decision
- Mario Barrios vs Abel Ramos: Barrios and Ramos draw following split decision. Barrios retains world title.
- Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano: Taylor wins by unanimous decision
- Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: Paul wins by unanimous decision
Who is Jake Paul’s girlfriend?
Jutta Leerdam, 25, was born in ’s-Gravenzande, Netherlands, and boasts a pretty impressive resume holding a Winter Olympic silver medal in Beijing in 2022.
She most recently won gold at the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen, Netherlands in March 2023.
Paul and Leerdam began dating in last year, and went public in April, with Paul continuing his social media and boxing careers with Leerdam working on her skating and influencer work.
The best heavyweight fights of all time
I find that watching dross really helps you appreciate real quality. It’s fair to say that the fight between Paul and Tyson wasn’t vintage so do yourself a favour and take a look at what is.
Mail Sport’s JEFF POWELL compiled a list of the best heavyweight fights of all time ahead of the Texas clash. Do you think one of Tyson’s fights from the 90s feature?
More pictures from the night in Arlington
More fights in Tyson’s future?
Most people would certainly hope not but the former champion refused to retire when asked after the fight whether it would be his last.
I don’t think so. It depends on the situation. I don’t think so, I don’t know, maybe I’ll fight his brother.
It raises the question of who Tyson could fight. He took on fellow former great Roy Jones Jr in 2021 so maybe a duel against another fighter of his generation could be interesting. Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield perhaps.
That being said, I think it would still be quite depressing seeing these legends of the sport in a diminished form scrapping it out. I’ll watch it! I just won’t enjoy it.
Mike Tyson’s trainer: ‘I truly believed we had this victory’
Rafael Cardeiro, Tyson’s trainer:
We worked for seven months for this moment. I truly believed we had this victory before the fight. He never asked to give up.
We are really proud of Mike, the way he trained for seven months, he put his life aside for training.”He’s the people’s champ. He’s inspired many people outside of the ring. The most important thing that Mike is going back home to his loved ones.
Hearn involved in Texas drama after Taylor win
There was a little bit of drama ahead of Katie Taylor’s press conference after she retained her undisputed lightweight belts with a thrilling win over Amanda Serrano. From the footage, it looks like promoted Eddie Hearn was initially told that his fighter could not have anyone alongside her on stage for the presser.
WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE
Ngannou unloads on Jake Paul
The American has quite a gift for making people dislike him. I would go so far as to say that that ability has made him a millionaire many times over. The latest addition to the dislike list is former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who recently had his own dalliance with boxing. Paul against Ngannous, now that’s a fight I’d like to see!
Next time I see this Jake Paul guy I’m gonna give him 2 or 3 slaps.
Why Paul and Tyson are set to be SUSPENDED
Viewers unfamiliar with the sport may be surprised to hear that both fighters are set to face suspensions following the eight-round clash in Texas.
But the issuing of temporary bans in combat sports is common, particularly when a fighter has suffered a knockout. as it ensures the fighters get the rest they require.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversaw the event, will ensure both fighters get a break. It is, as of yet, unclear how long that rest will have to last, but it will last for a minimum of seven days.
If Tyson or Paul had lost by technical knockout, then they’d have been suspended for a minimum of 30 days. If it was via knockout, though, that suspension would have been extended to 60 days.
Jake Paul’s post-fight excuses
I would have expected this if he’d suffered defeat but after victory? Paul has claimed in his post-fight presser that he sustained an injury shortly before the contest.
Perhaps he thinks this information will put a little respect on his name. After all, everyone is basically just saying he beat up an old man.
Two days ago I sprained my ankle, completely tore the ligament, anterior ligament and like snapped the other side of my foot. Was on crutches for four or five days and it just hindered the end of my training camp.
I don’t know how it didn’t get leaked or anything. I missed about two weeks of sparring and that’s why my cardio didn’t really feel so good tonight.
Paul responds to Piers Morgan
Earlier, Morgan, quite rightly, claimed that prime Tyson would destroy Jake Paul and urged those mocking the veteran on social media to refrain from doing so because even at 58 he managed to go the distance against Paul.
Well, the Youtuber was clearly not one of those ridiculing the former heavyweight champion. He replied to Morgan’s tweet and continued his theme of the night; praising Iron Mike.
Who mocked him? He’s a f***king beast. All respect to the Baddest Ever. It was an honor to share the ring with him.
More on Tyson’s demand to fight Logan Paul
The old man wasted no time in trying to set up his next fight after his defeat to Jake Paul. We brought you video earlier on Logan Paul responding to Tyson’s invitation for a scrap. Here’s the full story below.
‘Old is old’, says Stephen A Smith
Love Mike Tyson. Always have, always will. But 58 is 58. Plus the legs just wasn’t there. Old is old. Thank God he didn’t get knocked out. Now it’s time for Jake Paul to get in the ring with a Top-10 fighter — or Hell, a Champion.
No more BBall players, strikers from MMA, or old men. It’s time for Jake to get into a real fight. He’s good enough! Make it happen.
Bellew: ‘There is a huge difference in gloves’
Former WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew claimed there was a major difference between Tyson and Paul during their fight which may have influenced the outcome.
Ahead of the contest in Texas, both men agreed to a series of rule changes.
Among them were shorter two-minute rounds and an eight-round total, but they would also wear 14-ouch gloves, which is a quarter-pound more than the common 10-ounce gloves.
The gloves Mike has on are looking heavily padded while Jake has on Grants which are full on punchers gloves! There is a huge difference in them gloves and I’m only watching from a bed!
Room for one more…
How could forget to include this timeless classic? For those like me who are chronically online, this is of course, Michael Owen holding nothing back when taking shots against a literal child. It was basically the exact opposite in Texas, wasn’t it?
Time for some memes
As you can probably imagine, the internet has been having a great time with this fight. And classically the takes have been brutal, Many have obviously focussed on the age gap between Tyson and Paul but I think my personal favourite is the timeless picture of Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather sitting in front of a pile of cash. Enjoy!
Mike Tyson’s sad ending
The veteran’s last three professional fights – admittedly either side of a nearly two-decade hiatus – have ended in losses to Danny Williams, Kevin McBride and now Jake Paul. That’s a strange trio of names.
Friday night though appeared to sink to new lows, especially after Paul admitted that he took it easy on the veteran.
Would Paul stand a chance?
No, that’s my answer, but I guess fans of Jake Paul will somehow argue that a man who only picked up the sport a few years ago will be able to hang with one of the best fighters of his generation.
Alvarez, 34, likes to keep himself busy and has contested 66 professional bouts in his career. His record stands at 62 wins, with 39 coming via knockout. He has lost twice and has two draws on his record.
The Mexican’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga in September.
Paul WANTS Canelo
Thanks Harry and morning everyone! I have the benefit of having had a great night sleep – unlike Mr Bamforth, who seems to have royally ticked off by that fight.
Anyways, more reaction to the spectacle in Texas on the way. First, more from Paul on who he wants to fight next. Interestingly, he’s not gone for another former great or influencer, he’s got his sights set on Canelo Alvarez.
Now, to say that would be a step up would be an almighty understatement. And frankly, despite his claims, I seriously doubt that he would actually want to walk into the ring with the Mexican.
More reaction to come…
Right, it’s time for me to hit the hay, unfortunately.
There is no need to worry though guys, my wonderful colleague Tum Balogun will be steering you through the rest of the reaction.
If you have only just woken up to see the news, then you have a lot to get through.
My last piece of advice would just be to not watch the highlights – the fight was pants.
Is Tyson the GOAT?
I mean, it’s not a surprise that Jake Paul thinks Mike Tyson is the Greatest of All Time, is it?
Now he can say he beat the GOAT…
But is Paul right? Mike Tyson’s overall status in the sport is certainly up there, but I’m not sure he is the best.
I’d argue that Jake’s brother Logan actually fighter the best pound-for-pound fighter the world has ever seen.
That’s right, I am talking about Floyd Mayweather.
Serrano speaks her mind
Amanda Serrano has been fairly vocal on social media after her loss…
If you go to her X account, she is constantly re-posting tweets in which people are saying she was robbed.
I mean, the result was a little controversial but I wouldn’t say ‘robbed’ is the right word for it.
However, Serrano believes the numbers don’t lie, and in all fairness, there are a lot in her favour in this graphic.
What do you think, is she right to be miffed?
Proud girlfriend
Mail Sport’s Charlotte Daly has put in one hell of a shift this evening.
She even managed to catch up with Jake Paul’s girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, after the fight and she was obviously proud.
As an athlete herself, she certainly knows what it feels like to win at the highest level, so she will be revelling in this.
I bet the after party is now beckoning…
Paul: ‘Tyson’s age was showing’
More from Jake Paul speaking in post-fight press conference:
There was a point where he (Tyson) was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. That violence war thing… that went away as the rounds went on.
Morgan gives Mike kudos
Piers Morgan really does have a point here.
While we all know that Jake Paul wasn’t exactly going at full throttle, it’s still impressive that Mike Tyson lasted the full eight rounds.
Even when he had absolutely nothing left, he still kept pressing forward in hope of that one massive shot.
He is getting his fair share of praise for it now.
Any positives?
Right, it’s time to speak about some positives.
But first, I want to ask if anybody enjoyed that event in the slightest? Going by all of your comments, it doesn’t look like you did.
It wasn’t all bad, though.
Yes, the main event stunk out the place, but the co-main between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano was superb.
In what was the biggest women’s fight of all time, the pair put on one hell of a spectacle for us all.
There were several headbutts from Taylor, a huge cut, plenty of brutal exchanges, and a controversial decision.
If you didn’t enjoy that, then I don’t know what else to say.
Tyson leaves fans sad
Based on the mood of tonight, I thought I would share this story with you.
As you could probably all tell, the reaction to the fight has not had a single shred of positivity to it.
The supporters have just been left sad after seeing the state of Mike Tyson in that ring with someone 31 years younger than him.
If you want to read some of the best comments, this is the story for you.
MORE FAN REACTION: ‘Joke of a fight’
Lisa, UK: Complete joke of a fight. Jake Paul walked Mike Tyson through the 8 rounds. It was one of the worst fights I’ve ever seen. Tyson had no mobility and Paul was clearly holding back. Awful.
Trevor, UK: Good god Tyson looked old out there. Father Time has reduced him to rubble.
Anonymous: God I hope Canelo accepts a fight with Paul and retires him. I am sick of this YouTube influencer boxing.
I am still yet to see a positive comment which is not surprising in the slightest…
No Logan fight on the cards…
Well, that was short-lived.
Logan Paul has just told our reporter in Texas, Charlotte Daly, that he would not take the fight with Mike Tyson if he was offered it.
He claimed to ‘love Uncle Mike’, so that will be the main reason why.
Also, he just has no need to and there is no good reason to throw that 58-year-old man back into a boxing ring.
Let’s just leave it at this and move on, eh?
Canelo next?
I’m not surprised Jake Paul is happy, he is rolling in cash right now and gets to say he beat one of the best boxers of all time.
I’m guessing he will leave out the age part when he says it though, I would if I was trying to impress someone.
Of course, he had to speak about Canelo Alvarez.
His response to our reporter Charlotte seemed to indicate that he wants somebody else, despite all his callouts toward the Mexican in the past.
My guess is that we never see that fight happen.
Paul: ‘People love to hate me’
Jake Paul speaking in post-fight press conference:
I was just so prepared. It didn’t phase me and I just felt so at home. I wanted to give the fans a show but I didn’t want to hurst someone that didn’t need to be hurt.
People just love to hate me. I intentionally say things for people to hate. That’s what I like to do. If people want to see more… give me a couple of months. I tried to give the fight the best fight I possibly could.
When someone’s just surviving in the ring, it’s hard to make it exciting. I don’t care what people have to say. It is what it is.
The sorry stats
Right, it’s time to share with you some statistics – they do not paint a pretty picture.
The worst of the lot is the punches thrown. Mike Tyson only managed to throw 18 across eight rounds.
If you’re good at maths, you will work out that’s only just over two punches a round.
Compare that to Jake Paul who threw 78, and could have easily thrown another 100 if he really wanted to.
I think that stat alone tells the full story.
The best bits
Unsurprisingly, the highlights only last 29 seconds. Not much happened.
The opening clip shows Mike Tyson charging at Jake Paul, but that was pretty much the only time he showed movement all night.
If you haven’t seen the fight, though, feel free to check pout the bite-sized version.
Tyson tough to watch
I have been gathering my thoughts in the last few minutes as I want to talk about Mike Tyson once more.
I have to come out and say it, that was a tough watch.
Other than the first few seconds when Mike Tyson came out looking for the knockout, he looked every bit of his age.
He could hardly walk and Jake Paul could just pick him off at will. However, the youngster decided not to go crazy and just did enough to get the points.
Personally, I don’t want to see another fight like that. The more I think about it, the more it just doesn’t sit well.
I just hope no more legends try to have a crack at it.
Cordeiro: ‘Tyson is the people’s champ’
Rafael Cordeiro, Mike Tyson’s coach, speaking in post-fight press conference:
We work for seven months for this moment. I truly believed we had this victory before the fight. He never asked to give up. We are really proud of Mike, the way he trained for seven months, he put his life aside for training.
He’s the people’s champ. He’s inspired many people outside of the ring. The most important thing that Mike is going back home to his loved ones.
Paul asks for his pigeon
Yep, you read that right…
Jake Paul has a love for a pigeon he wasn’t meant to gift to Mike Tyson, but he decided to keep it after Iron Mike said he would feed it to his Eagle.
The pigeon came out to the ring with him in the car and now my colleague Charlotte Daly, who is backstage, has told me that Paul wants to see it.
Security are currently frantically looking for the cage. Incredible.
This event has been chaotic from its inception all the way until the very end.
‘Dismal to watch’
Riath Al-Samarrai, Mail Sport:
That was just unpleasant. Mike Tyson was once the most feared fighter on the planet. Dismal to watch.
FAN REACTION: ‘Rigged to go full rounds’
Anonymous: Entertaining night of boxing. Excellent matches before main draw. Glad Jake went easy on Mike. Entertainment purposes and big payday.
Don, UK: It was like seeing your grandpa at the old people’s home. It was bad. Could easily have been KO’d.
Emi, UK: It was so sad to watch. Especially when Tyson kept chewing his glove.
Linda, USA: Rigged to go the full rounds. All Tyson did was block. Jake could have knocked him out if allowed.
Time to celebrate!
I have a feeling jake Paul is going to have a party after that victory.
After a very subdued reaction to the win initially, he looked very happy with his girlfriend Jutta Leerdam in the moments afterward.
It seems she is buzzing too, just look at that smile.
I guess as a partner she is just happy that Paul came out unscathed. Not many people who have fought Mike Tyson have.
But they were all when he wasn’t a grandfather, to be fair…
KSI: ‘That was sad’
KSI has not been left impressed by that fight…
Jake Paul’s long-standing rival – who he is yet to fight – has taken to Instagram to voice his disgust at the bout.
Calling it ‘elderly abuse’ is some very strong wording.
It seems to be how a lot of people feel about this fight, though. Do you agree?
WATCH: Tyson seen backstage
Oh, I would love to be in that buggy! I find them so fun.
Well, you can just about see that Mike Tyson is taking a ride in one of those bad boys after going all eight rounds with Jake Paul.
I think he deserved a rest from walking to be fair, he has just been put through a hell of a lot, hasn’t he?
Bellew has his say
Not all of Tony Bellew’s opinions on Jake Paul are negative.
The former cruiserweight world champion has taken to social media to actually praise Jake Paul for not trying to knock out Mike Tyson.
I mean, while the fight was not exhilarating, I think Bellew is right here. It’s good that we didn’t see Tyson take a beating.
In reality, it was just a fancy exhibition.
Is Logan next?
Surely Mike Tyson will never fight again, right?
Well, we can’t be sure of that because he surprisingly called out Logan Paul after the result was called.
Jake’s brother didn’t respond to him very well saying he would kill him.
Tyson just laughed after that and it seemed like he was only joking. I think he just needs to hang up those gloves again and enjoy his life.
I have my fingers crossed that Logan does not fight him in the future…
A touch of class
Look, I think we have all been left disappointed by that fight, right?
While Jake Paul will get his fair share of criticism for that display, and rightly so, he should also be praised for how he treated Mike Tyson at the end.
After all the trash-talking in the build-up, Paul showed a lot of respect to Tyson and even bowed at him before the end of the fight.
It was all love in the end.
Tyson continues to nibble
I can’t lie, I laughed a lot when Mike Tyson explained why he bites his gloves.
He basically admitted that he does it as a way to not bite his opponent, just because he loves biting so much.
If only he could have resorted to his gloves against Evander Holyfield, eh?
‘Tyson had no chance’
Jeff Powell, Mail Sport, in Dallas:
Well before the end it was sad. Mike Tyson never looked like beating Jake Paul and he had no chance of defeating Father Time.
To Jake Paul’s immense credit, he pulled off a spectacular event and treated his idol with not only respect but also kindness.
A 31-year age difference was indeed too wide a gap for a 58-year-old to bridge. Nineteen years since his last serious fight did turn Iron Mike rusty.
What next for Paul?
I have no idea where Jake Paul goes after that?
While he may have won, that performance does not help his chances of getting any big fights in the future.
If he got in the ring with Caneol, it would be night night very quickly.
To go the distance with a 58-year-old, whether it’s Mike Tyson or not, does not scream contender.
I think the gimmick fights will just continue.
Paul: ‘It was tough’
Jake Paul, speaking on Netflix after his win:
Mike Tyson, he’s a legend. He’s the greatest to ever do it. I look up to him and we wouldn’t be here today without him. This man is an icon and it’s an honour to fight him. It was tough like I expected it to be.
He’s exactly what I thought, one of the greatest to ever do it. This night is not about me. I want to thank the real heroes, the US military, the doctor’s, the nurses, the nurses in the ER, the cops, the farmers… all the people that make this world go around.
I was trying to hurt him a little bit. I was scared he was going to hurt me. I’m trying to hurt him. I did my best.
Sense of disappointment
I am feeling rather odd right now…
The build-up to this fight was massive and we all loved it, but the fight has left this stadium and everybody else feeling underwhelmed.
The atmosphere in the room is one of disappointment because they didn’t really tango out there.
Mike Tyson says he wants to do this again, but I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.
However, he showed he had a chin, fair play.
Tyson: ‘I have a biting fixation’
Mike Tyson, speaking to Netflix:
Absolutely happy, yeah. I knew he was a good fighter, I knew he was prepared. I don’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I am just happy with what I could do.
I have a habit of biting my glove, I have a biting fixation. I don’t think (this is the last of me), maybe his brother (Logan).
JAKE PAUL BEATS MIKE TYSON BY UNANIMOUS DECISION!
Jake Paul has his hand raised and wins by unanimous decision with one judge scoring it 80-72, and the other two 79-73 in his favour.
Paul doesn’t even celebrate, it’s pretty flat inside the AT&T Stadium…
Both fighters look pretty gutted, I guess Paul probably wanted to be more impressive than that.
Fair play to Tyson for staying in there for so long.
We wait for decision
Well, how do we feel after that?
I mean, it certainly wasn’t a classic, but that was to be expected, wasn’t it?
Some fans are leaving before the result is even read out. I mean, it’s obvious that Jake Paul has won that fight.
I think they are leaving thoroughly disappointed – which makes sense.
ROUND EIGHT: Tyson goes the distance
Just like that, it’s over.
Mike Tyson has managed to go eight rounds with Jake Paul who is 31 years younger than him.
The pair show respect to each other before the bell even ends and then share an embrace at the end.
ROUND EIGHT: Tyson needs knockout
Mike Tyson needs a knockout here.
Jake Paul is easily up on the scorecards nearly winning every round, he just needs to get out unscathed.
It would be a good time for a Tsyon right hook right now if he wants to win.
I can’t see it coming, though.
‘Paul takes pity’
Looks as if Paul is taking it easy on Tyson. And subtly taking pity.
ROUND SEVEN SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND SEVEN: Paul not punishing Tyson
OK, I’m getting bored now.
Mike Tyson comes out a little more aggressive with some big right hands but none of them land on Jake Paul.
Paul lands a couple of clean punches toward the end of the round but Tyson just takes the punishment easily.
Even if he wins, this is not a good look for Paul.
‘Paul mocks Tyson’
Paul had poked out a mocking tongue at the end of the fifth but Iron Mike could find no way of punishing the insult in the sixth.
ROUND SIX SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND SIX: Tyson a sitting target
Mike Tyson is just a sitting target for Jake Paul but he is just not teeing off on him.
It’s a really weird watch, Paul just seems to be going for a points win, I’m not sure why he just isn’t going crazy.
‘Tyson eating leather’
Tyson lands one clubbing left but spends the rest of the fifth eating leather.
ROUND FIVE SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND FIVE: Paul continues to dominate
Every round is pretty much the same at the moment.
Jake Paul doesn’t look like he is going for the knockout despite Tyson being there for the taking.
He connects with an overhand right but it doesn’t do much damage.
Tyson is just a sitting duck at this point, but he continues to slug on.
‘Tyson struggling’
Crowd falling silent now as Tyson struggles to make any kind of impact
ROUND FOUR SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND FOUR: Paul in control
Mike Tyson looks every bit of his age here.
He can barely move and Jake Paul is just picking him off with ease, this is not good for the great fighter.
Paul is starting to work on the body too, he is just too quick for Tyson, he can’t get near him.
This is a hard watch if you are a Tyson fan.
‘Paul bossing it’
Paul starting to boss it. Catching his idol with some sharp combinations.
ROUND THREE SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND THREE: Tyson rocked
Oh, Jake Paul is starting to unload some big shots here.
He rocks Mike Tyson with a right and then presses with a leading jab, the social media star is all over the legend here.
Tyson is in trouble but he sees out the round.
‘Paul’s jab prevails’
Paul was on the move. Tyson unable to catch him. The jab prevails.
ROUND TWO SCORECARD: 9-10 Paul
ROUND TWO: Tyson looks stiff
Mike Tyson isn’t throwing a crazy amount here, he is just looking for the big hits.
Jake Paul is keeping his distance while Tyson tries to close it up.
Unsurprisingly, the 58-year-old looks rather stiff, he is not moving very well with those legs.
But Paul barely lands anything, so is not causing much trouble yet.
‘Tyson comes out firing’
As expected Tyson came out firing and three or four good shots counted for more than Paul’s jab. 10-9 Tyson.
ROUND ONE: Tyson comes out fast
Mike Tyson means business.
He lands a brilliant overhand right as he hunts Jake Paul around the ring looking to land big shots.
A nice early pace to this one, but no knockout.
ROUND ONE: We’re off!
Expect some big hits from Mike Tyson in these early rounds, he will be baying for blood.
Let’s get ready to rumble!
We are just moments away from one of the biggest fights of the year.
Thankfully, Netlfix’s stream has improved drastically after some terrible technology problems earlier.
Sadly there is no Michael Buffer introducing the fighters today, but the announcements are still getting the juices flowing for those in the crowd.
Well, apart from the fact that jake Paul has just been described as ‘the face of boxing’.
I’m not so sure about that, Jake.
Tyson takes to the ring
Mike Tyson sports one of his old looks after his return in the 1990s with a black poncho draped over his shoulders.
There are no gimmicks with this ring walk, he charges straight down the aisle with his eyes locked looking at the floor.
Iron Mike is looking mean tonight, and thankfully we can’t see his bum this time.
A man with a point to prove
Jake Paul really does have good taste in music, I love this tune.
What I will say is that I wish this entrance was quicker, the Chevy is going about one mile per hour.
Just as I type that, though, he gets out and struts toward the ring like a man with a point to prove.
Will the social media star shine under the lights?
Here comes the Problem Child
Jake Paul makes his way to the ring in the back seat of a car with his brother Logan. I mean, fair play.
‘In the Air Tonight’ is blasting from the speakers and Paul is just singing it like he is on a road trip.
This is quite something, he just looks unfazed. Taking it all in.
Time for the national anthems…
Popstar Tori Kelly opens the main event by singing the US national anthem and my word is she talented.
There is no Saudi Arabian anthem like at Wembley a couple of months ago, that was just a bizarre moment.
Anyway, now it’s time for the fighters to take to the ring.
Serrano: ‘Katie’s best attribute is her head’
I hope you guys aren’t squeamish…
Amanda Serrano has taken to X to show off the cut that came from the head of Katie Taylor.
It’s absolutely massive, I’m glad it’s her and not me, that’s for sure.
Also, Serrano basically says Tatyors had no punching power and just used her head. I think that displays how she feels about the loss.
Paul looking relaxed
Jake Paul does not look nervous in the slightest.
Shots of the YouTuber are being shown in the dressing room and he is just chilling like I would be while watching a How I Met Your Mother.
To be that relaxed before facing Mike Tyson, even if he is 58, is pretty mental.
Logan Paul then comes into the camera shot to give him some advice as his brother starts to shadowbox.
This fight is edging closer and closer.
Tale of the Tape
I think I know which statistic you are all going to look at first. Surely the age, right?
The main event is just around the corner so I thought it would be good for you to look at the comparison of the fighters.
It’s worth adding that Mike Tyson weighed in at 228.4lbs which was slightly more than Jake Paul at 227.2lbs.
That’s about the only stat that is close, let’s be honest.
Shaq and the stars
The stars have rolled in for the big fight.
It seems like everybody wants a photo with Shaquille O’Neal, and I don’t blame them.
Celebrities are everywhere you look at the AT&T Stadium, but you certainly can’t miss Shaq.
Cheeky Tyson
Mike Tyson really shocked me here…
When he turned around, I was not expecting to see his naked bum on full show. But he is Mike Tyson, he is unpredictable.
I hope he doesn’t come out into the ring like that.
Time for the main event
The time is nearly upon us…
We have just witnessed an absolute classic, so it’s going to be really hard for Jake Paul and Mike Tyson to live up to.
My prediction of a knockout still stands, I just can’t see it going eight rounds – even if they are only two minutes.
Serrano: ‘100% headbutts were intentional’
Amanda Serrano reacting to her loss on Netflix:
I dared to be great tonight, I am the featherweight champion of the world. It is what it is. Every time you get a cut, it bothers you, she kept headbutting you, but we knew that is what she do.
No matter how many cuts I have on my face, I will go until the very end. I think 100 per cent [the headbutts were intentional]. Using her head, dirty.
Boos echo around stadium
The fans really are not happy.
Boos are echoing around the stadium as Katie Taylor talks to Ariel Helwani of Netflix.
But she has a simple response saying ‘she doesn’t care’ what they think.
I mean, she doesn’t have to – she has retained her title and that’s all she will be celebrating tonight.
The boos are harsh, in my opinion.
And STILL… Taylor wins by unanimous decision
Katie Taylor wins 95-94 by unanimous decision, I can’t believe that. Yet another controversial decision.
There are audible boos and gasps as the result is read out loud, the stadium doesn’t seem to agree.
This will be a debate for a long time, and that’s devastating for Serrano.
But credit to Taylor, she remains the undisputed heavyweight lightweight champion.
Now we wait…
We wanted them to deliver and my word did they do just that. They really brought the best out of each other.
I have it for Amanda Serrano with the points deduction for Katie Taylor, but it’s so close.
We will find out in a few moments…
ROUND 10: Slugfest until the bell
This is truly incredible, both fighters are throwing with all the power they have left.
It’s just constant exchanging as both try and finish the other off.
Katie Taylor then lands a brilliant right before an uppercut from Serrano, these are huge power shots.
Oh, Taylor lands a great right hand before the well as she pushes her into the corner.
And the slugfest is over and the pair share a hug. An incredible fight again!
ROUND NINE: Taylor goes all guns blazing
Katie Taylor continues to lean in with the head.
They clash again as Taylor throws an overhand right in the pocket, and then she lands a brilliant straight right.
With the point deducted, the Irish fighter is going for it now.
Serrano then lands a brilliant body shot before the bell and now we have one more round to go.
Taylor has to go all guns blazing in this one.
ROUND EIGHT: Taylor deducted a point
Katie Taylor is deducted a point after two warnings for holding and then a lean-in with the head.
That seems so harsh, it didn’t look intentional, they were just getting close in exchanges.
The referee then tells Taylor ‘to change something’
ROUND SEVEN: Pair exchange huge combos
This is turning into an all-out war!
The pair both exchange huge combinations as they stand in the pocket, this is incredible.
Amanda Serrano is now going to the body too as she looks to wear out Taylor, and they look brutal.
We are getting the classic we wanted.
ROUND SIX: Can Serrano continue?
I can’t believe just how bad that cut is, it’s so big.
This fight really could be stopped because of an intentional headbutt in the fourth round.
It looks like she will continue, but I’m not sure how much longer for.
ROUND SIX: Serrano’s cut causing problems
Amanda Serrano’s cut is really opening up and the round is paused for the doctor to take a look.
It’s a monster cash, my word, blood is pouring out of it.
But Serrano is desperate to continue, let’s just hope this cut doesn’t stop the bout.
There is a huge roar after the fight resumes.
ROUND FIVE: Taylor growing in confidence
This pressure from Amanda Serrano is relentless.
She is just hunting down Katie Taylor at every opportunity with the Irish fighter just trying to find ways out of her range.
But that cut is starting to cause Serrano some problems and Taylor looks like she is growing in confidence at the end of the round.
Taylor’s stamina will start to come into effect now.
ROUND FOUR: Taylor headbutts Serrano
This does not look like the usual Katie Taylor here.
Amanda Serrano is still putting on pressure with Taylor just trying to escape, but she can’t.
Ohhhh, Serrano catches with a brilliant left and Taylor is really in trouble here. Every punch thrown by the Puerta Rican is a vicious one.
But she now has blood coming from her face after what is being called a headbutt…
ROUND THREE: Serrano in control
Katie Taylor looks like she is growing into this fight.
She fires off some brilliant combinations before clinching whenever Amanda Serrano tries to drop bombs.
Well, just as I type that, Serrano starts to gain control at the end of the round with Taylor looking a little worried.
Serrano still edging this.
ROUND TWO: Pair exchange in the pocket
Amanda Serrano is bossing this fight.
Katie Taylor collects herself but the challenger is straight back on the front foot, hunting the Irish fighter like a predator around the ring.
But wait, Taylor responds with a brilliant combination before an exchange in the pocket.
We are getting the fight that we wanted, and it’s Serrano who is edging it so far.
ROUND ONE: Taylor ROCKED!
OK, I was definitely wrong.
Katie Taylor comes out meaning business as she lands a brilliant combination to get Amanda Serrano on the back foot.
But Serrano manages to get out of the corner and presses back, landing a brilliant left.
Oh wow, Taylor is clocked with an overhand left and is in trouble right at the end of the round… but there goes the bell!
Ding, ding, ding…
There goes the bell, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s rematch is underway.
Will they come out all guns blazing, or will it be a tentative start?
My prediction is the latter, but I am famously bad at getting them right.
Taylor looks laser-focused
Goosebumps, literal goosebumps.
Katie Taylor walks out into the bright lights with a stern look on her face, a very different aura to that of Amanda Serrano moments ago.
The music too is also very quiet, she isn’t trying to get hyped.
I always find it interesting the different ways fighters walk to the ring. Some love playing out to the crowd, and some stroll with their focus on the ring.
Taylor is certainly the latter here, there is no smile in sight. You can see the emotion, though, it’s palpable.
History awaits, we are really ready to go now.
Here comes Serrano!
OK, now it’s time for pure vibes…
Amanda Serrano arises from the dressing room with the Puerto Rican flag on screens all around the AT&T Stadium.
She struts out with what looks like a weighted vest on and a smile on her face – she is ready.
I mean, she’s really relaxed and is dancing along to her walkout music, which I will admit, I don’t recognise.
I do understand why she is jigging to it, it’s a banger.
Serrano: ‘This is our time’
Amanda Serrano, speaking on Netflix, at the weigh-in on Thursday night:
This is the defining moment for all women in boxing, this is our time. We worked really hard to be in this position, I couldn’t ask for a better dance partner. I can’t wait to go out there and show my hands.
A historic rematch
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are just moments away from walking to the ring.
Netflix are currently showing highlights of their first fight two years ago and it really takes me back.
Some people still debate to this day that Taylor should not have won that fight.
Well, today she can prove that she is truly the greatest of all time by beating Serrano once again.
I just hope they supply another epic bout.
‘Tyson not messing about’
By Charlotte Daly At The At&t Stadium In Arlington, Texas
I’ve just been in the dressing room with Mike Tyson and he’s not messing about. He’s here to do and job and won’t be happy with anything else!
Boxing royalty
I feel like most of boxing’s Mount Rushmore is in this video.
Lennox Lewis, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Evander Holyfield have all re-united to watch their old pal Mike Tyson tonight.
I’m surprised Holyfield hasn’t borrowed those ear covers Jake Paul used at the press conference the other day.
In all seriousness though, it’s pretty cool to see all these guys in one room.
The new rules…
Right, let’s get into some housekeeping for tonight.
Considering this is not just your average fight night, it’s no surprise that it doesn’t have the usual main event rules.
If Jake Paul and Mike Tyson do somehow go the distance, they will only complete eight rounds, compared to the usual 10 or 12.
Also, the rounds will each be two minutes instead of the regular three.
Personally, I’m not sure they are going to need all eight of them. I feel a knockout on the horizon.
However, they are wearing 14-ounce gloves which makes it harder.
Tyson in his prime could probably knock someone out with pillows on his hands, though. That’s how tough he was.
Paul: ‘I am going to knock him out’
Jake Paul, speaking to Netflix from the dressing room:
I’m so happy he did that, it makes it real. When I beat his a**, nobody can say anything. I don’t care if we were friends before, this is real now and I am going to knock him out.
He just wanted any excuse to get riled up. I am in Mike Tyson’s head which is what makes me a very good fighter. No nerves right now. Once I get in the right I will get some nerves going, but I have been waiting for this my entire life. It’s a dream come true.
Taylor and Serrano up next!
This night is really starting to cook now.
Two years after they delivered one of the greatest fights I have had the pleasure of witnessing, and now Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will take to the ring again.
I am gassed for this one. If it’s even as half as good as the fight in 2022, we are in for a real treat.
This is the biggest women’s fight of all time. We are witnessing history.
Barrios and Ramos DRAW
Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos have just put on one hell of a fight, seeing out all 12 rounds.
They both look battered and in truth, I have no idea who won that fight.
And neither do the judges, they rule it a split draw which means Barrios retains his welterweight title.
Fan predictions
Try telling these fans that this is not an interesting fight, eh?
We have our first batch of fan predictions and it seems many are still backing the 58-year-old Iron Mike.
I mean, going off his open workout the other day, I can see why.
Do you agree with them, will Mike Tyson unload a huge right hook to finish off Jake Paul?
He would certainly have done it in his pomp… but that was 30-35 years ago.
The weirdest fight of all time?
To say this fight is controversial is an understatement.
It is one that has divided opinion worldwide due to te mammoth 31-year age gap between the two fighters.
However, while people rightfully moan, it is set to bring in one of the biggest gates in boxing history, if not the biggest.
Everybody is talking about it, and everybody will be watching. I know so many of my British friends who are waking up at 4am to catch a glimpse.
It’s such a weird scenario because it is not a fight I ever imagined would happen, and is not one that is loved.
However, it could be the grandest we have ever seen.
Paul arrives
Jake Paul is too now like Elvis… in the building. I will see myself out.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer has arrived with his girlfriend Jutta Leerdam on his arm. Power couple.
He is giving me the aura of Conor McGregor for some reason, he just has that look of ‘I’ve got a lot of money’.
He will be changing that suit for boxing shorts very soon, though.
Mail Sport INSIDE Tyson’s dressing room
Now this is what you call great access.
Mail Sport’s reporter on the ground in Texas, Charlotte Daly, has been allowed into Mike Tyson’s dressing room.
It’s fair to say, the 58-year-old is looking relaxed.
This photo resembles how my dad looks when he is watching Premier League footie on a Sunday evening,
He doesn’t exactly like he is about to fight in front of 70,000 people.
I mean, you can’t knock it.
Tyson is in the building
Just listen to that roar…
This clip alone tells you exactly who the sell-out crowd in Dallas are rooting for tonight.
The former undisputed champ has arrived and that means the fight is only getting closer and closer.
You are all allowed to get truly excited now.
Legendary fighters predictions…
Lennox Lewis: Mike Tyson’s gonna win. He’s not that old. Don’t take him too softly. We’re one year apart. You can fight somebody like that and do well, because the person you’re fighting is not a true fighter and there’s a hundred things that you’ve forgotten that he’s learning.
Anthony Joshua: He [Mike Tyson] is older now. I pray that he comes out healthy. I think Jake Paul [wins] because of youth – that’s the only thing.
Tyson Fury: If Mike Tyson hits anybody, I don’t care if he’s 90, he’s going to knock them out cold isn’t he? He’s Iron Mike Tyson, the baddest man on the planet. Jake Paul is very experienced now and he’s had a lot of fights but obviously, I have to back Mike Tyson for the knockout as he always backs me.
Tyson’s Battlecry
If this video doesn’t get you pumped up, I don’t know what will.
Mike Tyson has been a man of few words throughout the whole build up to this fight, but the three he posted earlier on X say everything.
The Baddest Man on the Planet is well and truly ready to turn back the clock and show that knockout power once more.
Watching this clip has the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. I’m so excited.
Paul puts on the pounds
We are looking at a very different Jake Paul tonight.
The YouTuber doesn’t usually fight at heavyweight, in fact, this is the first time that he is.
Usually, we see him around the 190lbs mark, but he is nowhere near that tonight.
Paul has certainly been eating good this camp, that’s for sure. Yesterday he weighed in at 227.2lbs, just a pound less than Mike Tyson.
To put that into perspective, he only weighed 184lbs when he lost to Tommy Fury last year.
It will be interesting to see how he handles that extra weight around the ring.
Paul: ‘He must DIE!’
Jake Paul, speaking to Netflix, after the weigh-in on Thursday night:
I didn’t even feel it, he’s an angry little elf. That was a cute slap, Mike. I am f***ing him up, I am f***ing him up – it’s personal now. He must die!
The slap that shook the world
We simply have to talk about this.
Last night’s weigh-in ceremony was pretty mundane until Mike Tyson decided to spice things up.
You could see he just had that look in his eye as he charged over to Jake Paul for their final face-off.
Then… bang. He slapped him.
Paul took it well, but there is no doubt that the slap shook him. It has certainly added an extra dimension to this evening.
Just watching it back is getting me hyped for this fight.
What’s in store?
It’s already been a busy night…
The main card is truly in full flow and we have just three fights to go, including the big battle between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
So, what do you have left to look forward to?
Here are the fights left on the card this evening:
- Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson
- Katie Taylor (c) vs Amanda Serrano – for WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles
- Mario Barrios (c) vs Abel Ramos – for WBC welterweight title
Two hours to go!
Oh, I am so excited for this one.
Yes, this fight is controversial for many reasons, but absolutely nobody in the boxing world wants to miss it.
They might pretend they do, but deep down they want to watch.
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul are set to take to the ring in roughly two hours, and then the talking will truly be over.
Knowing this sport, though, I wouldn’t rely on that time being accurate.
But anyway, we will use however many hours we have to build up the suspense, not that It really needs too much adding to.
Let’s get ready to rumble.
