Jamie Carragher made up a cunning fib about Thomas Tuchel to extract some exclusive details out of Chelsea star Noni Madueke on Monday night.

Madueke scored Chelsea’s third goal against Wolves on Monday night to continue his impressive form and make a pitch for more England action after his debut in September.

Tuchel has been attending Premier League matches after starting his role as England’s head coach this month – and Carragher used that as inspiration for his ruse.

Interviewing Madueke on Sky Sports after Chelsea’s 3-1 win, he said: ‘Noni, Thomas Tuchel was watching the game tonight, we spoke to him just after the game and he said you were the standout figure. You must be really pleased about that?’

In his reply, Madueke let loose a secretive detail. ‘I spoke to him earlier this week and we had a laugh about the game,’ he said.

‘I told him I scored a hat-trick in the earlier fixture and he said “well, you better score again then.” I’m happy that I was able to do so and chuffed that he thought I played well today.’

Jamie Carragher fooled Noni Madueke into revealing a secret detail about Thomas Tuchel on Monday Night Football

Madueke scored against Wolves at Stamford Bridge - his fourth against them this season

Carragher tricked Madueke into thinking Tuchel had complimented him after the game - and the youngster went on to reveal they had had a private conversation in the last week

Monday Night Football host David Jones was laughing throughout and jumped in: ‘I feel like I need to clarify Noni, Jamie’s having one of his wind ups.’

Madueke saw the funny side, laughing himself. ‘Nah that’s a good one… that’s well played from you,’ he said.

The 22-year-old has had good fortune against Wolves this campaign, having hit a hat-trick against them at Molineux in August.

He was booed and jeered from the first minute that day after accidentally posting an expletive message about Wolverhampton on the even of the fixture.

Madueke uploaded – and then swiftly deleted – a message to his Instagram story. The post had the city of Wolverhampton tagged and the message read: ‘Everything about this place is s***’. It was quickly deleted but followers had screenshotted it and it went viral.

Madueke followed it up with another message that read: ‘Damnn wrong instagram account.. You lot are too fast’.

He also apologised: ‘I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended. It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn’t meant to be out on my socials like that. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I’m sorry.’

With seven goals to his name this season he is only one short of last campaign’s tally and he will hope to become one of Tuchel’s trusted stars ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Chelsea moved back ahead of Manchester City into fourth place in the Premier League with their win over Wolves.
