Jelly Roll BLASTS X as the ‘most toxic negative app’ before taking a social media hiatus

Singer Jelly Roll took to X to put the entire social media platform on blast, before presumably taking another hiatus.

The 39-year-old singer (born Jason Bradley DeFord) took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday with a rather pointed statement.

The singer’s statement comes just days after he admitted that he was ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous at just 14.

‘This is for sure the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD. lol,’ the singer began in his statement.

‘This place is different man, I always heard it was the Wild West on here but man it’s insane,’ he added.

‘It’s a safe place for everyone to say mean shit to each other with no consequences. I’m out lol,’ he concluded.

The singer’s account on X remains active nine hours after he first sent the tweet, though it’s unclear if he plans on fully deactivating at some point.

It’s worth noting that Jelly Roll previously quit social media back in April, with his wife Bunnie XO saying he was quitting after being bullied for his weight.

‘My husband got off the Internet because he is so tired of being bullied about his f***ing weight, and that makes me want to cry, because he is the sweetest angel baby,’ she said.

Don’t bully people, because you never know where they are mentally. There are a lot of people who are not as strong as me, that are on the internet, and they don’t deserve to f***in’ be bullied,’ she added.

Just a few weeks later, he told Variety, ‘Oh man. I’m sure I’ll be back, but right now I’m not thinking about anything.’

‘I probably shouldn’t elaborate on this because nobody on my team wants me to, but I don’t have a problem with social media,’ he said.

‘And it wasn’t just bullying that did it. It was not only the toxicity of social media, but the addiction of it,’ he elaborated.

'I was becoming too busy to waste hours of my life scrolling. I can honestly say that I’ve been off social media for a few months now and I’ve never felt better or healthier mentally — never felt more clearheaded,' he added

‘I’ve also never had less of an idea what was going on in the world, but I tell you what, I’m definitely not coming back before the election. Bad joke,’ he said.

While he started his career in 2003, he broke into mainstream prominence in 2022 with hit singles Son of a Sinner and Need a Favor.

He also recently made his Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest for the Season 50 premiere.
