Kyle Sandilands reacts to outgoing ABC star Sammy J’s savage swipe: ‘What a deluded flog’

Kyle Sandilands has hit back at comedian Sammy J after the ABC star took a savage swipe at the shock jock.

Sammy J, who announced last week he was leaving ABC Radio Melbourne, took to X last week to mock Kyle after his ABC show beat The Kyle and Jackie O Show in the Melbourne radio ratings.

‘I beat Kyle again in my final ratings today,’ the radio star, whose real name is Samuel Jonathan McMillan, wrote.

‘So, I’ll forever live rent free in his head. I’m his white whale; his tormentor; the last face he sees at night and first face he sees each morning.

‘When he strolls on the beach at night, the wind will whisper “Sammy J,”‘ he quipped.

The Kyle & Jackie O show suffered a small dip in the seventh GFK radio ratings in the Victorian capital last week, placing them behind the outgoing broadcaster.

And Kyle took serious umbrage with Sammy’s comments on Monday, claiming that he had ‘never heard’ of his radio ‘rival.’

‘There’s some guy at the ABC in Melbourne who quit, but he was saying some weird s**t like: “I beat Kyle Sandilands,” and: “I’m the first thing he thinks about’,’ Kyle said on Monday’s Kyle & Jackie O Show.

‘I have never even heard of him and he thinks that he is in my mind. What a deluded flog. I don’t know who you are dog.’

Kyle’s spray continued: ‘[Sammy wrote] When he [Kyle] walks on the beach he can’t not think about me. I said “Bro no one knows who you are.”‘

Reading Sammy’s direct quote, Kyle’s co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson argued that the comedian was only joking, but Kyle was having none of it.

‘Jackie, He is from the ABC. They don’t joke.’

Kyle’s manager and Kyle and Jackie O Show director Bruno Bouchet chimed in, agreeing with Kyle’s assessment of the sledge.

‘You’re 100 per cent right,’ Bruno said.

‘The ABC, they don’t do jokes, that’s against their charter so you’ve got to assume that it’s being said very sternly and seriously.’

Kyle then offered his congratulations to Sammy before offering his own, not-so-subtle digs at his rival and the ABC.

‘Anyway well done to him for winning, Not that anyone give a s**t,’ Kyle said.

‘I don’t even know why they taxpayer is forced to pay for a commercial-less radio show to be in a survey. What do you have to pay for that?’

It’s not the first time that Sammy has sledged Kyle and Jackie O.

Back in August, the ABC host mocked the pair after they placed fifth in this month’s survey, while Sammy J had a boost in the ratings for his ABC breakfast show.

The popular comedian could not resist boasting his victory with a post that mocked the Kyle and Jackie O Show’s  love of lewd content back in August.

‘All these months asking my ABC listeners whether they’ve done a**l has really paid off,’ Sammy said in an Instagram story at the time.

The naughty joke at the expense of his rivals appeared to be a direct reference to a remark made by Sandilands when his radio show made its debut on Melbourne airwaves in April.

During the show Jackie, introduced herself as ‘STI-free’ before Kyle began pressing her for her opinions on a**l sex.

The 52-year-old, meanwhile, introduced himself as an ‘ex F-boy, coke-sniffing a**hole.’

Sammy, who has been hosting ABC Radio Melbourne Breakfast since before the pandemic, said he leaves the program with ‘pride’ and gratitude.

‘Hosting Melbourne Breakfast was an unexpected opportunity that became an unexpected joy,’ Sammy J said.

‘But radio demands all of you and deserves nothing less, and after five years I’m ready to trade the 4:15am alarm for more regular hours.’

‘I leave with pride, gratitude, and a litany of cash-for-comment scandals that will be revealed in due course.’
