Dairy company HP Hood has recalled Lactaid, a brand of lactose-free dairy milk, in 27 states due to exposure to almonds.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the milk may contain a trace of almonds. Almonds were not listed on the nutritional facts and could cause risk to those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to it.
On Friday, HP Hood issued a recall on 96-ounce containers of whole, 1%, 2%, fat-free and 2% calcium-enriched Lactaid Milk that were shipped to retailers and wholesalers from September 5th through September 18th.
The recall applies to the products that have the code 51-4109 P2.
The states affected are Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The FDA said that the issue was discovered when a daily maintenance routine program revealed the potential trace of almonds.
Anyone who has bought the impacted product can return it where it was purchased and may receive a refund or exchange.
The FDA said that no allergic reactions have been reported yet.
