Manchester City star Savinho narrowly managed to avoid injury after falling into the photographer’s pit during his side’s FA Cup third round tie at home to Salford.

The incident occurred midway through the first half at the Etihad Stadium as Savinho tussled for the ball with Salford’s Curtis Tilt.

The winger ended up falling into the pit, with photographers having to quickly move out of the way.

Savinho, who was making his first appearance in the FA Cup, was helped out of the pit by a photographer, with Tilt also coming across to offer assistance.

However, Savinho didn’t appear interested in Tilt’s offer of a helping hand, with the pair proceeding to get into an argument.

City were leading 2-0 at the time of the incident courtesy of goals from Jeremy Doku and Divin Mubama. Nico O’Reilly later added a third goal, with Jack Grealish scoring a penalty in the second half. City eventually ran out 8-0 winners as James McAtee scored a hat-trick in he second period and Doku got his second goal of the game with a penalty.

Savinho, 20, has gained plenty of experience since joining City last summer.

The game against Salford was his 26th appearance for City in all competitions, while he has scored one goal and has provided eight assists.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be determined to regain the FA Cup this season.

After beating rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final in 2023, City lost to the same opponents in last year’s final.

Guardiola recently suggested that Savinho is ‘in better shape’ that fellow City winger Grealish.

The City boss explained his decision to start Savinho instead of Grealish against West Ham recently.

‘As much as (Grealish) looks at himself, he will see the competition,’ Guardiola said. ‘He has to compete with himself. Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack and that’s why I played Savinho.

‘I want the Jack that won the Treble. But I try to be honest with myself for that. What happened with Savinho’s delivery in the box? It’s higher than the other wingers in that position.’

Guardiola stated that Grealish will have to fight with Savinho for a regular starting berth.

He said: ‘And they have to fight. You can say “OK, it’s unfair”. If you think that, then it’s fine. But you have to prove, ‘I’m going to fight with Savinho, to deserve to play in that position’. And every single day, and every single week and every single month.’
