Matildas star Mary Fowler reveals her hidden talents in new series of education videos – with boyfriend Nathan Cleary her No 1 fan

  • Fowler lives in the UK, away from Cleary and her family
  • Recently had to take time away from the game for mental health reasons
  • Has found a way to get creative and connect with her loved ones

Life can be tough living on the other side of the world to your loved ones, but Matildas star Mary Fowler has revealed a hidden talent that allows her to stay connected.

The Australian strike weapon plays for Manchester City in the UK and recently took time away international football to focus on her mental health.

She spent time in Australia travelling the east coast with her NRL boyfriend Nathan Cleary and spending plenty of time with their friends and family.

While Fowler has always showed her creative side, with her love of photography a standout feature of her social media posts, she has decided to take that to the next level.

She revealed spending time with her sister over the Christmas break has re-inspired her love of art, so she has started an ongoing series of art education videos on Instagram to help stay connected with friends and family.

‘My older sister has inspired me to get back into art, so thought I’d start sharing some arts & crafts I’ll be trying out,’ she posted.

‘Let me know if you have any tips or ideas for my next craft time.’

The series is called ‘Arts and Crafts with Mazzy’ and opens with a video on creating a flower pot.

The first video involves clay work, with the Matildas star glamming up a simple little pot into something much more creative.

‘Today I am just going to be decorating this cute little mug, or pot plant,’ she opens the video with, before carving off a chunk of clay to start working with.

‘I think I am going to do the top half completely blue and then the bottom half with little flowers like that using the red.’

She wasn’t entirely prepared for the video though, lamenting the absence of some key tools.

‘This would be a lot easier with a rolling pin,’ she says before using the pot as a makeshift roller.

But the end result is worth it.

‘Look at that, it’s so beautiful … why didn’t I do this sooner? This is so fun,’ she asks.

She then fashions a handle by weaving two strands of clay together, exclaiming: ‘That would make such a cute little basket’.

‘That’s pretty decent.’

Unsurprisingly, the first like to appear on the post is her NRL boyfriend Nathan Cleary.

Two-time Olympian Morgan Mitchell also liked the video along with a host of friends, family members and art pages.

‘Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. Thanks for the inspo Mary,’ one follower commented.

‘Is there anything she can’t do?’ asked another with a love eyes emoji.

‘This makes my heart so happy for you,’ posted another.
