Mike Johnson Saw a Republican Wave Coming, and Laid the Groundwork. Now, He Should Remain Speaker.

There are a handful of Representatives in the House I really and truly respect and admire. Of them, there are only two men I think exemplify the type of conservative values we need leading the party: Chip Roy and Mike Johnson.

With the GOP able to hold onto its majority in the House (and possibly extend it), it’s clear that President-elect Donald Trump will have support from the House in pushing forward his agenda. And, as we enter a new era of conservative governance, one thing should be clear to Republicans across the party: Mike Johnson is the right person to lead the House of Representatives.

I say this, knowing some conservatives are looking to replace him during GOP meetings today. However, this is foolish and will only hurt the GOP caucus.

Since his election as Speaker, Johnson has done something few in Washington have been able to accomplish—he’s kept a fractured Republican caucus together, balancing the demands of hardline conservatives and the concerns of moderates. His leadership has been a breath of fresh air for a party gearing up to fulfill its promises to the American people.

A Proven Record of Party Unity and Cohesion

Unfortunately, as an incoming Speaker, Johnson was in a position no one else in D.C. could really be jealous of. He was the leader of a party with a slim House majority, the party itself was not in power in federal government, and almost immediately upon entering the role he faced dissent from some on his own side – including former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s close conservative ally, Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Despite this, Johnson has demonstrated the essential trait of a strong Speaker: the ability to keep a divided caucus united. It hasn’t been easy. Conservatives have pushed for bold, unyielding action on key issues, while moderates have voiced concern over the political risks involved. But Johnson has handled it with grace and resolve, navigating his way through conflicts without sacrificing his conservative principles. He’s shown that he can lead, even in the face of intense pressure from within his own party.

Even when faced with dissent, Johnson has proven unshakeable. While some Republicans in Washington have let division weaken their resolve, Johnson has stayed true to his convictions, handling criticism with resilience and staying the course on key conservative policies. Johnson’s approach has shown that he isn’t just leading his party—he’s anchoring it to the principles that matter most to its voters.

The Visionary Who Predicted—and Prepared for—a Republican Trifecta

Months ago, Johnson was one of the few voices predicting a 2024 Republican victory that would not only keep the party in control of the House, but also give them the Senate and White House. While other Republicans and pundits wavered in their predictions, worried about Trump’s chances, Johnson was both publicly and privately telling folks the GOP was in excellent position.

But it wasn’t just talk. He was also laying the groundwork for effective governance under a unified GOP administration. His foresight speaks volumes about his political instincts and his readiness to lead a new era in American politics. It’s clear that Johnson’s leadership isn’t just about winning the moment—it’s about long-term success for the conservative movement.

A Fundraiser Who Worked Tirelessly to Win Key Swing Districts

One of the marks of a strong party leader is their commitment to seeing their caucus succeed, and Johnson has shown that he’s willing to put in the work. It’s one of the reasons I have such strong feelings about the race for Senate leader – none of the three candidates (John Cornyn, John Thune, or Rick Scott) have all of the qualities necessary to be a truly effective leader in this new era of Republican control. Cornyn and Thune are not conservative visionaries. They’re status quo guys. And Scott proved in 2022 he was neither a true leader nor an effective fundraiser.

As Speaker, Johnson crisscrossed the nation, raising funds for his fellow Republicans and campaigning in key swing districts. His efforts didn’t just help re-elect his members; they secured crucial wins in tight races that have bolstered the Republican majority. Johnson’s dedication to helping his caucus—and his proven ability to raise the funds necessary to win tough battles—makes him indispensable.

A Stalwart Conservative and Faithful Leader

Johnson stands as the first openly evangelical Speaker of the House, a deeply committed conservative who has spent his career championing family values, limited government, and religious freedom.

His beliefs aren’t just talking points—they are the principles that guide him. In a time when many politicians are tempted to compromise for political gain, Johnson’s consistency has been refreshing. And you can tell he is a true believer in those core values because the media has worked nonstop to discredit him over them.

His integrity has helped him earn respect across the party, and his values-driven leadership style is exactly what conservatives need as they look to push forward the Trump agenda.

Strategically Playing the Long Game on Government Funding

While controversial, as Speaker, the Louisiana-born Republican had to work creatively to maintain balance between the status quo and bringing some change to how government was funded. It didn’t quite work out as conservatives hoped, but it did help Republicans buy time until the next Congress. A lot of that was Johnson playing the long game, trying to keep government spending from running further amok and also keeping a shutdown from potentially affecting electoral outcomes.

Again, this was Johnson’s ability to play the long game. He approached to government funding with a plan of holding the line until he could get reinforcements. Rather than capitulating to Democrats or making hasty compromises, Johnson has bided his time. He knows that with Republicans holding the White House and both chambers, he’s now in a position to address funding issues from a position of strength. He’s taken a disciplined, strategic approach that speaks to his wisdom as a leader—and it’s an approach that will serve conservatives well as they begin rolling back the overreach of the Biden-Harris administration.

A Champion for the Trump Agenda, with Trump’s Full Endorsement

For those who support President Trump’s vision for America, there’s no better choice for Speaker. Johnson has been a consistent champion of the Trump agenda, advocating for policies that protect American workers, secure the border, and defend our rights. Johnson’s commitment to these ideals has earned him Trump’s endorsement, and it’s clear that he’s the right person to carry forward that legacy in the House.

The GOP’s Path Forward Needs Johnson at the Helm

As Republicans prepare to take on the significant task of undoing the policies of the Biden-Harris administration and re-establishing a government that truly serves the American people, they need a leader who can govern effectively and stay true to conservative values. Mike Johnson is that leader. His dedication to the GOP, his clear vision, and his unwavering commitment to conservative principles make him the right choice to lead the House.

With Johnson as Speaker, Republicans can take on the challenges ahead, confident that they have a steadfast, principled leader who’s ready to govern, restore America’s strength, and make lasting change for the future.
