William Saliba will not feature in Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday – but is set to return for their crunch Premier League match against Manchester City next weekend in a major boost.
Saliba didn’t train earlier today after picking up a hamstring in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham last week.
Arteta said: ‘He’s evolving really well. The last few days he was feeling much better already but this game comes a little bit too early for him.’
When asked if Saliba could be in contention to face Manchester City on February 2, he added: ‘Yes, I hope so.’
Ethan Nwaneri and Riccardo Calafiori both returned to training and are in contention.
Arsenal have been linked with a plethora of strikers in this January transfer window. The hype is something Arteta has grown accustomed to.
He said: ‘I understand it happens, as well in the summer.
‘I get a lot of people texting, “When are you signing him and him and something”. I don’t even know what they’re talking about. I don’t follow it too much. I have enough work to do with a lot of things, so I don’t get too distracted with it.’
