Republican Tim Sheehy has flipped and won Montana’s Senate race.
Incumbent Democrat Jon Tester faced off against Republican challenger Tim Sheehy in the race for Montana’s Senate seat.
Sheehy maintained a steady lead over Tester in the polls throughout the race.
Sheehy is an active firefighting pilot. He also served in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Navy SEAL Officer and Team Leader, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific region.
He and an all-veteran team also founded Bridger Aerospace, which has created over 200 Montana jobs. Meanwhile, Democrats attempted to portray Sheehy as an out-of-state millionaire that will crumble everything that Montana and its residents stand for.
According to his campaign website, Sheehy promises “to fight for every hardworking Montanan and their family, because we all need to work together to build a future where we restore American greatness with a strong economy, low-inflation, and high-paying jobs for all Montanans.”
In contrast, Republicans highlighted the fact that Jon Tester previously endorsed Joe Biden and openly supported his policies.
The three-term senator was first elected to the Senate in 2007. He has maintained the position ever since. Prior to his time in the upper chamber, Tester was a member of the Montana State Senate from 1999 to 2006.
The Democrat never had a massive win in past elections and hasn’t been able to win by more than 4% since 2006.
Later, Tester attempted to backtrack his support for the Biden Administration, refusing to endorse Kamala Harris.
He was also the second Senate Democrat to call on Biden to pull out of the race.
According to Tester’s website, his work “ has improved access to services for our veterans, cracked down on corruption and cronyism in Washington, lowered prescription drug costs, and secured more resources for our Border Patrol and military.”
At the time of this reporting, Sheehy won with 53.4% of the vote compared to Tester’s 44.8%.
90% of the expected votes have been counted.
