Brittany Renner has shared an update months after her shocking conversion to Islam, with the influencer saying that finding the religion has been a ‘really beautiful purification process.’
Renner, who shares a son with Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington, stunned fans when she posted a video of herself in a hijab over the summer.
She was previously known for posting scantily-clad pictures to Instagram, and was linked with the likes of James Harden, Lil Uzi Vert and other celebrities before Washington.
However, in a new video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Renner shared insight into her religious journey.
In the video, which has been watched over 436,000 times on Instagram, Renner explained that she had been Muslim for five months, sober for six and celibate for eight.
‘This has been a really beautiful purification process for me of the mind, heart, body, and soul and an opportunity to meet myself deeper,’ she said.
‘What I have discovered is how deserving I have always been and am. Even with wearing the hijab, trusting so much so, that who is meant to see me will see me,’ Brittany stated.
Renner said she originally joined Instagram in 2012 for the purpose of getting validation and male attention.
‘I feel free. I do not belong to this world, this world did not give me my joy, and it can’t take it either,’ she said, appearing to refer to Instagram.
She and Washington, 26, started dating sometime in 2020 before breaking up the following year, with the NBA player writing a vague tweet about someone ‘faking it all along.’
Renner, now 32, told Akademiks that she and Washington met when she was 26 years old, while he was playing at the University of Kentucky.’
Previously, Renner admitted that she wasn’t sure how her modest new look will work with her contractual obligations, given she is paid to model clothing from stores marketed as ‘sexy,’ such as Fashion Nova.
She spoke publicly about her financial woes in an August Instagram video, in which she wore a khimar, a piece of cloth worn by Muslim women that covers the head, neck, and shoulders.
‘I have gone through a lot of changes internally.’ And as a result, my outer world has completely crumbled,’ Renner told her followers. ‘I have no idea where I’m going to live or how I’m going to provide for my son.’
While she insisted that she doesn’t ‘want a penny more than’ she is ‘meant to have,’ many fans scoffed at her concerns
‘You crying to the wrong tax bracket girl. Bye,’ one wrote.
Last year, Renner confirmed that she got $2,500 a month in child support while appearing on the Tonight’s Conversation podcast, according to Yahoo! News.
Washington has made over $17million to date in his pro career and signed a three-year, $48million extension last summer.
