Nebraska Senate Race Results

WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 27: Senate Armed Services Committee member Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) arrives for a hearing on the Commission On The National Defense Strategy's finding in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill November 27, 2018 in Washington, DC. Commission co-chairs Eric Edelman and retired Navy Admiral Gary Roughead warned that the United States military readiness is on the cusp of a national security emergency and despite Defense Secretary James Mattis' strategy to move the armed forces in the right direction the plan is not adequately resourced. Deb Fischer has won Nebraska’s Senate race.

Incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer faced off and won against Independent challenger Dan Osborn in the race for Nebraska’s Senate seat.

Fischer assumed office in 2013, was a member of the Nebraska Unicameral from 2005 to 2013, and also owns a cattle ranching business in Valentine.

According to her campaign website, Fischer is working hard “to ensure all Nebraskans have opportunities for good paying jobs to support themselves and their families. Deb has led the way in promoting innovation, regulatory reform, and job creation here at home.”

She also highlighted accomplishments as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.

Nebraska Democrats didn’t nominate a candidate to run in the state’s primary or general election. Osborn said he would not accept their endorsement.

Fischer previously called Osborn “a Democrat in sheep’s clothing.”

Osborn served in the U.S Navy for four years as an SK aboard the U.S.S. Constellation CV-64, going on to join the Nebraska National Guard along with the Tennessee National Guard.

“As a Senator, I won’t just talk about securing the border: as an independent, I’ll be uniquely positioned to bring together a majority to get it done,” Osborn said. “There’s nobody like me in the United States Senate.”

At the time of this report, Fischer won with 52.6% of the vote compared to Osborn’s 47.4%

76% of the expected votes have been counted.

All results are based on information provided by Reuters.
