Nose job tragedy as woman, 22, dies on operating table while boyfriend watches on in horror after she found doctor on TikTok and went for a ‘touch up’

  • Margaret Spada, from Lentini in Sicily, travelled to Rome for the procedure
  • But the 22-year-old fell ill on the operating table and died days later in hospital

A young woman has died on the operating table after undergoing a nose job procedure from a doctor she solicited on social media in Italy

Margaret Spada, a 22-year-old from Lentini in Sicily, travelled to the unnamed clinic in Rome for a ‘touch-up’ on November 4 after spotting an advert for the facility on TikTok.

But she became gravely unwell shortly after being administered local anaesthetic and slipped into unconsciousness before the rhinoplasty began.

Multiple attempts to resuscitate Margaret were made but her situation rapidly worsened and she was rushed to hospital where she fell into a coma.

Three days later, Margaret died in her bed at the Sant’Eugenio hospital in Rome, according to La Repubblica.

‘The absurd thing is that it was a routine operation,’ said her family’s lawyer Alessandro Vinci.

‘That a 22-year-old girl returns home in a coffin is unacceptable for the family.’

In a heartbreaking twist, Margaret’s boyfriend, who was in the waiting area when her condition deteriorated, was taken into the operating room to see his girlfriend as she fell unconscious.

Horrified by the scene, he decided to film a short clip of what unfolded in the operation room – footage that is now being reviewed by investigators as part of a manslaughter investigation, according to La Sicilia

'The family, the parents, the sister at this moment are surrounded by the affection of many people and are closed in a silence of pain that cannot be explained in words,' said the family's lawyer, Alessandro Vinci, following Margaret's death

Margaret reportedly found the clinic that performed her nose job through a sponsored advert on social media.

She had travelled to Rome from her small Sicilian community to have the procedure.

The entire community of Lentini has been left shaken by the devastating news of her death.

‘The family, the parents, the sister at this moment are surrounded by the affection of many people and are closed in a silence of pain that cannot be explained in words,’ said the family’s lawyer, Alessandro Vinci.

‘They ask to know the circumstances and causes of their daughter’s death.’

Vinci added that a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday.

Meanwhile, a manslaughter investigation has been opened up by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by NeedToKnow.

Medical records have been seized to determine whether the centre was adequately authorised to perform complex cosmetic surgery such as rhinoplasty.

Investigators are also looking into whether Margaret’s health had been properly assessed before going under anaesthesia.

‘The parents knew where their daughter had gone to have the surgery and Margaret had entrusted herself to an Italian surgeon,’ Vinci said.

‘That facility should have provided guarantees but it will be up to the investigation to ascertain this.’

Italy’s Rai News service reported that two individuals at the clinic are suspected of manslaughter, adding that they are believed to be doctors and are also father and son.

It is unclear why Margaret’s boyfriend was invited into the operating room by those performing the procedure.
