Gary Neville was full of praise for Micky van de Ven following the defender’s sensational assist against Manchester United.
Tottenham opened the scoring after just three minutes at Old Trafford, with van de Ven incredibly pushing forwards with the ball from his own half before crossing for Brennan Johnson, who tapped home.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: ‘Absolutely brilliant from van de Ven. One of the best runs I’ve ever seen from a centre-back.’
‘He drives through four Manchester United players. It’s amazing. Brilliant.’
The United defence was left bewildered by the tremendous run from van de Ven as Tottenham made a flying start.
After previously receiving some criticism for his performances, Johnson has been in impressive goalscoring form recently, scoring two goals in his last three games prior to facing United.
As Neville acknowledged, the run forward from van de Ven was hugely unusual for a centre-back, with the 23-year-old causing all sorts of problems for United.
Van de Ven initially won the ball from United’s Marcus Rashford before pushing forwards to excellent effect.
It seems unlikely that there will be many better assists in the Premier League this season.
