- Wayne Bridge has dropped out of his upcoming fight against KSI in March
- KSI joked about Bridge’s ex-girlfriend’s alleged affair with John Terry in 2009
- The former Chelsea defender claimed that the social media star ‘crossed a line’
A Premier League winner has appeared to step forward to fight KSI following Wayne Bridge‘s decision to pull out of the March bout.
Just two days after news of the shock contest was announced, Bridge dramatically withdrew and claimed that the YouTube star ‘crossed the line’ with his taunts of the ex-Chelsea defender.
The social media sensation aimed a jibe at Bridge after Misfits Boxing 20 on Saturday night, regarding his ex-girlfriend’s alleged affair with John Terry.
During a face-off in the ring with Bridge, KSI said: ‘Aren’t you the guy that let John Terry smash your ex?’ Bridge replied: ‘You want to go there straight away do you?’
‘I’m pretty sure that’s what you’re known for,’ KSI added, before riling up the crowd and starting a chant that went: ‘Vanessa woah, Vanessa woah’, referencing Bridge’s ex-girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel.
KSI proceeded to add X-rated words to his chant that directly referenced Terry and Bridge’s former partner.
The former Leicester City defender Danny Simpson, who is understood to have been training with Bridge in recent times, appeared to throw his hat in the ring.
‘Disrespecting the ballers. Can’t be having that @KSI [angry face and boxing glove emoji] @MamsTaylor @MisfitsBoxing.’ he wrote on X.
The 38-year-old made his professional boxing debut back August when he faced Danny Aarons in Dublin.
Simpson had put his Premier League winner’s medal on the line, while Aarons had staked his Gold YouTube Subscriber plaque.
Simpson spoke to Mail Sport ahead of the fight when he opened up about the whirlwind chain of events that led him from summer holidays to the boxing ring.
‘Everything happens for a reason,’ Simpson declared. Admitting to a carefree summer filled with Euros celebrations and stag parties,’ he confessed: ‘You know, you’re having fun, but are you really having fun?’
A call from boxing promoter Mams Taylor presented Simpson – who won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016 – with a new challenge.
Simpson recalled: ‘At the time, I was probably enjoying myself in the summer a bit much. But now, in the last three or four weeks, this has been fun. Mams Taylor rang me and asked me, do I think I could do this in four or five weeks? And I love challenges.’
