Rosie O’Donnell has made a statement amid news of her daughter Chelsea’s October 14 arrest in Wisconsin.
The 62-year-old media personality — whose son Blake got married in August — took to Instagram on Saturday with a photo of Chelsea, 27, and her son Atlas, one.
O’Donnell’s eldest daughter was charged with child neglect after police found her 11-month-old son in a home full of meth pipes, feces, and garbage.
In the caption to her followers, she said, ‘chelsea is in the news today – this is a photo from a better time – here is the family comment:
‘sadly this is not new for our family – chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade – we r all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease.’
The longtime comedian added a broken heart emoji and ‘#love #alanon 10.19.24.’
Chelsea has been charged with four felony counts of maintaining a drug trafficking place, child neglect, possession of meth, and possession of THC.
Police were called to her home in Marinette, Wisconsin, on September 10 by Chelsea herself, court documents obtained by In Touch revealed.
The 911 operator reported hearing arguing in the background and a woman telling someone to ‘get the hell away’ from her.
When police arrived, Chelsea reportedly tried to downplay the situation, insisting things were fine before later admitting she and boyfriend Jacob Nelund had gotten into an argument.
‘I tried to ask her more questions and you could tell that Chelsea was not being honest whatsoever. This was a repeat of what happened a few weeks prior when I was at her house for a similar incident,’ a police officer wrote in a report.
Among the items in her home, officers found a meth pipe with residue inside.
A box of hypodermic needles was allegedly found in the child’s room.
O’Donnell has had a tumultuous relationship with Chelsea throughout the years.
She and her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter adopted Chelsea when she was a baby. She left the family home in 2016 at age 18, moving to Wisconsin to be close to her biological mother.
‘Chelsea is mentally ill,’ Rosie told the Daily Mail in 2017. ‘[She] has been in and out of hospitals most of her life. Born addicted to heroin. She has had a tough road. She is very sick. She is not capable of truth or reason.’
She has four children: daughter Skylar Rose, five, Riley, three, Avery Lynn, two, and Atlas.
