Scott Jennings, CNN’s resident Republican truth teller and creator of hilarious sound bites, got more than he bargained for Monday as he traveled through Washington, DC’s Union Station.

Union Station is a travel hub located just a few short blocks from both the U.S. Capitol and the DC bureaus of big networks like CNN and Fox News. On any given day, you’ll see elected officials and media personalities passing through Union Station either on their way to catch a train or making their way over to the Hill. It’s a busy place, but it has fallen into disrepair in recent years and has, as have many parts of DC, attracted the criminal element.
So, there was Scott Jennings going about his business when he stumbled upon a crime in progress, and a serious one at that. Here he is in his own words:
Sadly, the unidentified victim was unable to be saved, according to WUSA9.
Police were called to Union Station just before at 4:47 p.m. Monday for reports of a shooting. When officials arrived they found a man, unconscious and not breathing at the bottom of the escalator leading to the waiting area.
First responders were called to the scene to examine the victim and provide life-saving measures. He succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Information relating to the victim’s identity like age or name have not been released.

Trump is planning an executive order to make prosecutors seek tougher penalties on local crimes, clear homeless encampments, and scrub graffiti — echoing campaign rhetoric to “restore” the capital city, the Washington Post reported.
And DC’s mismanagement and persistent crime problem haven’t escaped notice from Congress. Last Friday, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) introduced the Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident (BOWSER) Act to repeal the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which would strip the Mayor and city council of their power to oversee the Federal City.

“The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation’s Capital in crime-ridden shambles.” said Rep. Ogles. “Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness. Bowser and her corrupt Washington City Council are incapable of managing the city. As such, it seems appropriate for Congress to reclaim its Constitutional authority and restore the nation’s Capital. The epicenter of not only the United States Federal Government but also the world geopolitics cannot continue to be a cesspool of Democrats’ failed policies.”
Washington, DC’s descent into lawlessness has become impossible for the president and Congress to ignore, and Scott Jennings’ firsthand brush with the city’s grim reality underscores the urgent need for change to come to the Nation’s Capital.
