The shoot for the upcoming new installment in the Jurassic World franchise has moved on to New York City.
On Saturday, two of the stars of Jurassic World Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson and Rupert Friend, were spotted shooting a scene on the bustling streets of Manhattan.
Initially, after getting her hair, makeup and wardrobe done, the actress was seen making her way to set dressed in a blue suit and white top with white sneakers and dark sunglasses.
She was seen filming in the backseat of an SUV with co-star Friend, who was in the front driver’s seat.
The new science fiction action film, which comes on the heels of Jurassic World Dominion (2022), is the seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise and stars a whole new ensemble cast that’s being led by Johansson.
Friend, a British actor who many people know from the political thriller series Homeland, look relaxed during filming while in the front seat.
In between takes the two actors got into several conversations, which was likely centered on the work at hand.
He plays the role of Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical representative, while Johansson is portraying Zora Bennett, a skilled covert operation expert in the new reboot of the franchise.
The set took place in front of Shake Shack restaurant, and featured a group of at least four people in hazmat suits touching up the area and spraying some sort of liquid in an area that looks to be sand.
That could mean this particular scene will have lots special effects and CGI that will be done in post-production.
Along with Johansson and Friend, the cast also features Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.
‘Five years post-Jurassic World Dominion, an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough,’ IMDb is reporting about the premise of the story.
As covert operations expert Zora Bennett, Johansson’s character is ‘contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs,’ according to Universal Pictures, as reported by Wikipedia.
‘When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinosaurs, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.’
Gareth Edwards is serving as the director, and is working from a screenplay from David Koepp, who co-wrote the first two original films Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997).
‘The script is so incredible. David Koepp wrote it. He returned after like 30 years to write the script. He’s so passionate about it, which is so awesome,’ ComicBook.com reports
‘I’m such an enormous fan of the franchise and huge nerd for it. I’m just like, I can’t even, I’m pinching myself,” Johansson added, before admitting, ‘I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years.’
Steven Spielberg is back as executive producer on the project, which is a joint-venture production between Amblin Entertainment and Universal.
Principal photography began on mid-June in Thailand and went on for about a month until the production moved to Kalkara in the island country of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, located in Southern Europe for another month.
From there, the shoot went to Sky Studios Elstree in London, England in August for another round before moving on in late September to New York City for these latest scenes being shot.
With lots of post-production work still left after the set wraps, Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.S. on July 2, 2025.
