Taylor Swift‘s reputation may have never been worse, at least with Republicans, new polling finds after the megastar endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
The exclusive DailyMail.com poll conducted by J.L. Partners shows the full extent of the global superstars bad blood with the GOP after weighing in on the 2024 race earlier this month.
It found Swift has become a victim of polarization with 57 percent of Republicans holding a negative view of the 34-year-old global superstar while 71 percent of Democrats have a positive view of the ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ singer.
Among Independents, 50 percent have a favorable or somewhat favorable view of the singer while 27 percent had a negative view of her.
The new data was released as part of a poll that also shows a majority of voters think Harris is responsible for higher inflation, the border crisis and the Afghanistan withdrawal.
‘It’s finally happened: Taylor Swift has turned from Miss Americana to The Archer in the political crossfire,’ said James Johnson, co-founder of J.L. Partners.
‘She is now viewed like many other things in American discourse, from the economy to news networks: through a partisan lens,’ he added.
The polling conducted from September 13 to 15 of 1,054 likely voters comes just days after Swift announced she would be voting for Harris in the presidential election.
Swift made her blockbuster announcement on Instagram just moments after the presidential debate wrapped up on September 10, writing in a post ‘I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.’
She signed the post ‘Childless Cat Lady’ in a dig at Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance.
According to the polling, multiple groups of voters are shaking off the endorsement and its impact. But it is still a love story for Swift and young people who were ready for the endorsement.
Some 52 percent of those ages 18 to 29 said they were more likely to vote for the Democratic presidential nominee because of her endorsement.
‘Though this one might not have had much of an impact immediately, if Swift is active in October in encouraging young people to vote, it could make a difference in swing states with tight margins,’ Johnson said.
‘Harris certainly needs her help: our polling shows that 18-29 year olds heavily support Harris but are also some of the least enthusiastic about their vote in November. If that changes, Donald Trump is not Out of the Woods just yet,’ he added.
Hispanic and black voters also signaled they were more likely to back Harris with the Swift endorsement.
At the same time, more Independent voters said they were less likely to back Harris because of the endorsement: 27 percent said they were less likely while 24 percent said they were more likely.
While Swift’s endorsement has revealed daylight between the singer and some key voters, other endorsements appear to have a bigger impact in the race for president, the polling found.
Robert Kennedy Jr.’s announcement that he’s backing Trump appears to have the biggest effect as of now with 22 percent.
For Harris the endorsement with the biggest effect appears to have come from former President Obama and First Lady Michelle. 20 percent said it had the biggest effect.
When it came to Swift’s endorsement, only four percent said it had the biggest effect, similar to the four percent who said Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Harris had the biggest effect.
But that has not stopped the singer’s endorsement from getting the most attention, including from the GOP nominee.
