The ACLU, Who Once Helped Americans, Now Will Help Illegals Evade Deportation

It seems as though in the last decade or two, we have witnessed once great American organizations become nothing more than bodies of woke indoctrination. College and university campuses, corporations, and even scouting have become bastions of liberal woke ideology. Nothing is immune. As the incoming Trump administration vows to get rid of as much wokism as possible in America, there are, of course, those willing to do anything to keep ideas alive that the American people clearly said they didn’t want in November. Enter our old buddies, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

As the Trump administration prepares to initiate the largest mass deportation operation in American history, the ACLU will now be advising cities and states on how to assist illegal immigrants how to evade deportation. Currently, estimates range from 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants are living in the U.S. Roughly 1.5 million of them have final deportation orders.

Incoming Trump Border Czar Tom Homan has made it abundantly clear to those who plan on getting in the way of the deportation process that if they do so, they will be prosecuted. In a statement to the Immigration Reform Law Institute, Homan said,

“If you’re in the country illegally, you’ve got a problem. It’s not okay to enter this country illegally. It’s not okay to be in this country illegally. It’s not okay to hire an illegal alien.”

But apparently, the ACLU plans to take on Trump and Homan. Anthony Romero is the ACLU Executive Director. During a recent appearance with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Romero stated that the now far-left organization has prepared a “game plan” that focuses on pressuring and advising city and state officials on how to assist illegal immigrants in eluding deportation.

Romero said,

“We have this whole plan around the firewall for freedom … the idea that these local officials can really play an important role in stopping the guardrail abuses.”

Romero is seemingly more concerned with the freedom of illegals than the rights of Americans, which the ACLU used to be. His comments got increasingly radical. He continued,

“For instance, when they’re going to try and detain and deport all these hundreds of thousands, up to a million, people. That’s an operation that they have the legal power to do, to do the raids. But the logistics, they’re going to need mayors and governors or city councils to give them access to police officers or not, jails, where are you going to house all of these folks. to give them access to police officers or not, jails, where are you going to house all of these folks.”

Chances are, he’s wrong, and Trump and Homan won’t need the cooperation of mayors, governors, and city councils. But it got better. Romero stated that local and state officials should pardon those illegal immigrants convicted of crimes and ensure that ICE agents are prevented from entering jails and prisons, saying, “They should sever these relationships that they have with the federal government on immigration enforcement.”

Romero wasn’t done making sure the rights of illegal immigrants in jails and prisons were protected.

“They should make sure our prisons and jails are off-limits. They should begin to think about what actions they can take to pardon immigrants who have a criminal record because they drove on a suspended license. Let’s take them out of harm’s way …  we’ve got to swarm our allies in these places … there’s a whole game plan for this.” [Emphasis added]

The ACLU has come a long way from the days when their mission, in their own words, was to be “the nation’s premier defender of the rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.” Now, their main focus appears to be on the “rights” of those who should not be here in the first place and not American citizens.

Perhaps Tom Homan should give the same message to the ACLU that he gave to Democrat governors who have threatened to impede deportation, “If you’re not going to help us, get the hell out of the way, because we’re going to do it.”
